As some of you already know, I am coming to Europe at the end of this year. I have decided that it might be better to purchase a very, VERY, inexpensive car to drive to doctor appointments while I am there, instead of renting a car.

Do any of you living in France, Germany, Poland, Belgium, Spain, the UK, etc., have an old "Beater" car you would like to sell cheap, or know of someone else who has one for sale. It has to be a Diesel and I prefer a manual transmission. I don't care too much what it looks like, but it must be reliable, as I don't have the money or time to spend fixing it every few days. My budget is something less than 1,000 euros, and I was hoping to find a car for around 400 to 500 euros, but know that might be asking for too much. My car of choice is a Volkswagen Golf TDi, or something similar, preferably the 4 door version with hatchback, but I will consider anything reliable.

I will be staying in the North West of France, but for the right deal, I am willing to travel a long way to pay and pick up the right car.

Thanks for any help you can provide.
    David

Edit: It has to be able to pass the CT inspection in France, so I can get it registered. If this thread is offending anyone, or the site moderators don't like it here in the General Forum, just delete the whole thread.

Not sure what the laws in France are, but I'd assume you have to register the car, which will only be possible if you have some sort of residency.

Transfering ownership across borders also adds a lot of paperwork, even more with such an old clunker.

A 4 door Golf TDI for that little money is a very sought after item, be prepared to either get 1t of scrap-metal or something really ancient.

Buying an non-VW for the same money might get you a car 5 years and/or in much better state of repair.

Yeah, I figured that finding a working Volkswagen Golf TDi for less than 1,000 euros would be a long shot, but will keep looking. Just thought that since there are many members on this site who live in countries that might have such cars, I could enlist more eyes to look out for such a car.

I will probably end up settling for a Renault, Citroen, Fiat, or other small car with similar size of the Golf.

    Hi Amigadave,

Screetch has just proposed this link on meta-morphos.fr

    http://www.leboncoin.fr/voitures/offres/lorraine/bonnes_affaires/?pe=4&fu=2&gb=1&sp=0

I advise you that the car already has the technical control...

    Thanks for the link.

I have been searching that site for a couple of weeks now, as it was recommended by another friend who lives in France.
