I wonder what the odds are of this working on my PCI-Express Quadcore G5 2.5GHz Powermac with an ATI Radeon X1900 XT graphics card?

I don't have my hopes too high to be honest. :-x

    Everything is progressing nicely.

Bigfoot also did some preliminary benchmarking using the same LAME and MPlayer benchmarks as used here.

    LAME: 13 seconds
    MPlayer: 49 seconds

This is with the 2.0 GHz G5.

    Merry XMAS everyone.

Blimey, that will have been loud work with the fans on full power!

    >Reorganising the Quark source code so that support for a second CPU architecture could be added

Hmmm, we allready have MorphOS running on dual G4s with the 2nd CPU "sleeping", does that mean there will be some way to actually use a 2nd CPU ?

    >The next things I will focus on is getting the on-board NIC and fan control working.

Years ago when cyfm was demoing MorphOS on my iMac we surely had net-access, so I assume the towers are useing a different chip here ?

I thought the Apple cards were based on the X1900GT.

"Reorganising the Quark source code so that support for a second CPU architecture could be added"

Wouldn't that be the third (sub)architecture after G2/G3/G4 and PPC440H6? Or does it mean PPC64 here, as opposed to PPC32 (which includes both G2/G3/G4 and PPC440H6)?

"and writing and testing all the code required to support the PPC64 architecture"

Support for PPC64 just means starting on the CPU in its native PPC64 mode and switching it to PPC32 mode as soon as possible (like OS4 does on PA6T), right? Or are we talking about a 64-bit MorphOS build here?

Considering some of the poor benchmarks I've seen for PPC64, I'll take the 32bit mode.
Besides, you don't really expect one developer to move us from 32 to 64bits, do you?

Considering that MorphOS 3.1 has already been released, the answer is most definitely "No" ;-)

Hopefully the Dual 2.5 Ghz G5 PowerMac I bought in September 2004 will work with MorphOS in the future? If not I might just throw it in the garbage.

Mines a reflashed 'PC' one. Works fine, except the fan comes on full when the G5 is switched on until the memories been fully checked, which is a while with 16GB of ram*. Then it's fine.

Maybe an open firmware hack for the fan would help...

After the G5 port is done if they could also get MorphOS to support my external Firewire iSight Camera that would just be icing on the cake!

I have one of those also. Should work with G4 also, any developer that wants to take a look at it ? I never used firewire ... does it work as USB when you plug a device in ?
