    ...when will we get MorphOS 3.0 this month next weekend or on Christmas? Or maybe next year?

    I was thinking that myself, I just bought a 64 GB SSD for my 15" 1.67 powerbook, and given how fast the sluggish MacOSX boots I'd imagine MorphOS would have booted 1.5ms before I pressed the power button!

    But anyway to answer your question, dunno.

    Waiting like all of us. Fab, Amiga Dave, and others have given us appetizers as to what to expect. I think it will come next year but be more stable and have more features. :-D

    "Two more weeks?"

    "When it's done!"

    I know a PowerBook which is except for the sucked-out battery in otherwise really mint condition and waiting to fulfil its destination.

    Maybe I'm having a Deja Vu, but I think I read questions like "When do you we get MorphOS 1.5/2.0/3.0/G5/x86/ARM/whatever" some years ago...

    It has been said many times from Morphos team that the 3.0 would have been released until the end of this year (better: if I well remember they said until this December) so it should be released in this days.
    If this will not happen I think there will be an announcement to communicate a new delay.

    No, they said "not before December". So it can come in January, February ... November ... They did not say which year, so it can come as Kronos said.

    Seems I missed something, as MorphOS Team member Krashan declares:

    "It was officially stated that it will happen this (2011) year. Then it is just a matter of 18 days."

    Somehow I like "this year" much more than "likely this year" ;-)

    Of course I would like to see it this year, from a PR standpoint it looks wonderful and stamps authority for the MOS guys being the most professional of the bunch (IMHO).

    But, personally looking at the amount of code and sheer effort to release a new release. I'm cool with 1st quarter next year...

    In summary - to keep the 'leadership' position release it for Christmas, but I won't be mad if you don't...

    Keep up the great work MOS Team, I do appreciate it.

    Why would having it out before the end of the year make any difference to this stupid Willy measuring competition? the standing of MorphOS?

    @stephen_robinson,

    I was having some fun looking at the Amiga NG microcosm and thought if you release early/ontime you take away one argument against you. The best PR wins lots of battles, not the best equipment (A fact we as former Amiga users know all too well.)

    Anyhow, just having light hearted fun not a serious discussion in anticipation of running MOS 3.

    Merry Christmas,

    Matt

    We know it will be more than that because we were told what will be in MorphOS 3.0 a month ago. It will be this minus that. Unless the MorphOS Team lied to us that is.

    @hooligan,
    You're right I don't know the exact features, but IMHO I bet isn't wasn't easy making it compatible with the PB. Perhaps It would have been better if I said "I bet there was a lot of effort to make it compatible with the PB".

    Merry Christmas,

    Matt

    Should have added: have found 2.7 actually quite polished, I don't expect anything bigger-than-life features in next version.. nothing would make me more happy than to be surprised though :)

    Powerbook support is a good thing for sure, but for majority of people this is quite irrelevant so I hope it alone won't delay the update. I trust the team 100% and am quite sure we will hear father christmas knocking on door before the year closes 8-)

    @hooligan,

    It has already been confirmed and announced that version 3.0 will have support for the G4 PowerBook, so it WILL delay the release, until the team is satisfied with the support of the PowerBook in MorphOS3.0.

    More work will be needed afterward to support more of the PowerBook hardware, after the initial release, such as 3D support for the Radeon 9700 Mobility card inside the G4 PowerBook's.

    Each addition of "new" hardware that MorphOS supports has sparked new interest and USERS to the platform. The PowerBook is unique in that it brings MorphOS out in the public view. Computers have migrated from desktops to portability in the industry as a whole. Your remark of "but for the majority of people this is quite irrelevant" gives me cause to ask. "Do you own a PowerBook or have plans to?" Your "majority" may be of one :-D

    I would wholeheartedly agree that 2.7 is very polished, I'm very satisfied overall with 2.7. There are a few items that they addressing that will make me even more satisfied:
    1. The powerbook addition, for me the speed is what I value not the portability. My peg 2 flies for most things except for internet browsing being too slow for my taste.
    2. SMBFS enhancements and better files systems (not sure what release it will be).
    3. Updated 3d drivers, RTCW is unplayable in 2.7 on my 8500.

    Indeed am looking forward to the Christmas Season!

    Just can't see existing users wanting to "upgrade" to Powerbook + possible new users combined giving them a majority over people who will stick to what they have now. I will be the first to draw my words back if proven otherwise hehe

    Hooligan:

    I bet for at least 300-500 Powerbook registrations before end of 2012 (hopefully more). I think the majority of existing users is very much waitinf for a MorphOS laptop. At least it's my impression from reading the fora and IRC. At least a powerbook is pretty high on my list for 2012. Unfortunately I will not have one at hand at the 3.0 release already, but will get one rather soon (as soon as I see one for a good price).
    Anyway, 3.0 is of course also w/o Pb-support highly welcomed, but 2.7 is so nice already, the pressure for 3.0 is not that big.
