    Hello everyone,

I prepare the next Pack Ultimate (v1.6.0) for MorphOS 2.5.
It's a pack of software (audio, video, games, emulators, office, paint, etc...)

Feel free to send me your contributions, suggestions.
I will compare with the tool Rival system files from the old package with those of MorphOS 2.5 see what had become obsolete.

    for software, jegougou proposes:

    - add Dopus 4.18 and milkytracker

Thanks for your participation to this project.

Any idea when a Morphos 2.5 compatible pack will be available?

I've just done a fresh install of 2.5 on my Peg ready to take to the VCF show this weekend and was going to install your pack ultimate when I notice on the download page its not 2.5 compatible :(

Someones got to wave the blue flag ;)

Fair enough, thought I'd ask before installing software from scratch.

Thanks for the work you put in on this.

Not sure what's the current contents but I see two key ingredients myself:

    1) python2.x library by Yomgui - most recent (from the guy's site)

    2) Basilisk II (no roms because it's proprietary!) with IcXL for MacOS8. It's excel file reader/viewer and can export to csv AFAR. I spoke with the company and talked the guy into releasing a free key for MorphOS community. So the key might be included as well (it's normally proprietary and costs some $10 for MacOSX) but I suppose, you might be ought to place some ad in turn (I was asked to do so in return for the key).

    Sounds nice? :-)

EDIT* IcXL also is supported under MacOS7.5 so the one which is freed. Anyway the only catch to get IcXL working is said ROM files.

Was: Mac Mini PPC running MorphOS 2.4
Now: Amiga Forever 2010 with AmiKit and AmigaSYS
Not used: Icaros Desktop 1.2 (reason: no wifi)
    Planned soon: an OS4 system
Shortly then: a MOS notebook (wifi is a must-have)

This is a very good project, keep it going. MIME type integration is key.. btw how do the Morphos devs feel about this project? Do they assist you any?

Hi Paiousaur. Have you considered making several Ultimate distributrions, with varying amount of add-ons? From a basic one, with just some add-ons over the stock MorphOS 2.5 setup, all the way to the complete set that your pack already has. Something like "light", "regular" and "full" versions. The problem with this is that it might triple the amount of work.

The best would be a very clever install script, that allowed thew user to pick add-ons onwe by one - with careful dependency checking, of course.

Thanks Papiosaur, the Pack Ultimate is a great resource.

I maybe dreaming, but have you thought of making a light installer package instead? For example, user picks packages to install and these are downloaded from a repository such as MorphOS Files and/or Aminet on demand, rather than redistributing same with the Pack.

There would need to be some smarts built-in to check software dependencies - that's probably the hardest part.

As someone said previously, it would be nice to have user oriented versions e.g. a "developer" version would have complete dev environment, many additional programming languages (e.g. Python, Lua, Pascal, BASIC, etc), a "gamer" version that would include console emulators and creme de la creme of games, "multimedia" version, "ultimate" version (everything included), and so on.
Registered MOS 2.7 + Pack Ultimate 1.6.2 running on:
    Power Mac G4 FW800 1.42GHz 2GB / Radeon 9000 Pro 128MB / SB Live! / NEC USB 2.0 / SuperDrive
    Mac Mini G4 1.5GHz 1GB / 64MB VRAM / SuperDrive
    Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP 1920x1200
    PowerBook G4 ready :-)

@ magnetic : yes Fab help us about mimetypes ;-)

@ all thanks for your suggestions ;-)

i think about a new installer where you could install a pack software, a pack of Emulators and a pack of Games ;-)

    @Papiosaur

I managed to get your 1.55 beta mostly running on Morphos 2.5 for the VCF show and it seemed to help impress some of the non brainwashed visitors and make my previously bare install look far more suitable to be the only Morhos machine there.

Thanks again, and I'm looking forward to trying 1.6 when its ready.

there is a recent thread regarding making dvd from avi files, with some configuration issues and discussion about software to use.
Could it be something interesting there for the pack?

I think many users already have pack 1.55 installed. Eg have installed the pack on MOS2.4, and then updated to MOS2.5.
Would it be possible to make an option to do an update, so that you only install whats new. And so that you dont overwrite config files that the user might have made changes to.

Also, I wonder about if I should do something to the file openpci.library-disable after updating to Mos2.5?

As MorphOS 2.5 comes with a new version of that library, I'd guess it's the old version renamed by the installer. Recent version reads "openpci.library 2.1 (08.10.09) C 2009 Benjamin Vernoux". I'd suggest you delete the renamed one.

This reminds me how I recently upgraded MorphOS from 2.3 to 2.5: Entirely by hand! I have a small system partition (on purpose) and the new installer refuses to install fresh or update because it wants 170 MB (booooooo!).

So I just opened two listers, left and right of the screen. On the left, the 2.5 CD contents. On the right, the 2.3 running system. I carefully replaced everything in the later (except ENVARC) which was updated in the new version. My system has some components that I don't use removed, and I didn't add newer versions of them.

Afterwards, I ran the scripts to set correct file attributes in "S" and "C", and voil?, I'm on 2.5, with the preferences set from 2.3. All this can be done perfectly on the thirty minutes that the demo version allows.

I don't belive this leads to a perfect system, but indeed it starts and works stable, at least for a quick test. Being able to replace files on a live, working MorphOS system, is lovely!
