Roger Entwisle was the user that posted the message in October of 2007..
It seems prophetic. Look at Osco's tag two years later.

I think Golem's point is that you're not supposed to start threads where you are the only person answering...

Yes. I found it rather dull. If you search the archives you can find a million posts like this from Amiga users.

What exactly is your point ?

Koan the dull message made a timely point with me. I had been away from (Amiga) for many years. I was on the sidelines waiting for new hardware and Amigaworld.net was the site that I would go to for new news. What the 2 year post asked for is now a reality. I realize that many at Morhzone have been here at this site for many years but my perspective is one that began a short month or so ago. I have made the choice and look forward to new projects. Morph has all the tools and now the hardware.
The Mac Mini was the turning point but there are many eager to return. Our questions and posts may be dull but our collective energy will add to the Zone. I found the post with a Google search on MainActor for the Amiga. I don't know the person who posted it.
    Ty again :-)

Yes Osco but... Don't you agree that, sometimes, you make an strange use of this forum? I seems that you write more than you read. But I value you, because you are new to MorphOS (but not to Amiga), and every addition is welcome. Enjoy the trip, you've joined here in one of the best moments of our long-short history!

I'm not knocking your enthusiasm, I'm just asking what is special about the post that you linked to ? It is not particularly prophetic or insightful and there is nothing to distinguish it from many other similar posts.

Four years ago I too was sitting on the sidelines. I didn't buy an A1 because it was expensive and never seemed to get out of the bug fixing phase, let alone have a finished OS on it. I bought my Pegasos 2 as it wasn't expensive at the time and it was a lot cheaper than an A1-XE or micro A1. I'm sure you could have got a more powerful PC for cheaper but I wouldn't have wanted to run another OS.

IMHO it's great that MorphOS is now out on another platform, however, I would be much more content if it was new hardware. I could write a long post similar to the one you linked to about the need for new hardware but I'm not going to.

Too much sitting on the sidelines is bad for you. How much was an EFIKA 2 years ago ? ~$200 including MorphOS ?

    nice read Osco,

this was me about a year ago, till I discovered morphos, so yea, I wasn't going to buid up my 1200 060 with hard to afford and impossible to get hardware. I didn't have $1k for an A-1 or micro infact I'm glad I didn't now because I'm having a good time with morph and what it's capable of.

Public Efika 5200B support in MorphOS came with MorphOS 2.0. That was 1.5 years ago.
Efika 5200B price was halved by Genesi to 99 USD in May 2007, i.e. 2.5 years ago:

    http://www.genesi-usa.com/press/2007/5/21/

Thus, 2 years ago the Efika 5200B was about 100 USD (from Directron and other dealers) *excluding* MorphOS. Half a year later the hardware was still available for the same price, and MorphOS for it went for 111.11 EUR for the first half a month, then for 150 EUR.
I leave the currency conversion and summation to you ;-)

It's nice to see this MorphOS enthusiasm in a new user, and the "Aha!" kind of experience you seem to be having! :-) In that way you are walking the same path that many of us did before you. I guess you've seen the light! ;-)

    Welcome! :-)

    @ koan & jcmarcos

You know, he comes from AW.net, where they use the web forum like an IRC chat. Not necessarily a bad thing though. IMHO this site could really need some more traffic.
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :-)

I knew you would be there with the figures ;)
Yes, I was thinking of the introductory MorphOS price when recalling the price; if 1 Euro was approximately $1, as it was about that time, then I'm not that far off.

    @ TMHG

But even on IRC you talk to OTHER people.

Okay, so we speak about 99 USD plus 111.11 EUR, i.e. 1.5 years ago.

    > if 1 Euro was approximately $1, as it was about that time, then I'm not that far off.

1.00 EUR was between 1.56 and 1.60 USD around that time. If we take 1.56 then 111.11 EUR equaled about 173 USD. Together with the board cost we are at about 272 USD. That's way more than your 200 USD, 36% more to be precise.

Depending on what sources you check, I guess the value of the euro, or the accuracy of the data can vary. I see the euro hitting a high of 1.58 USD around July of 2008 and then falling almost all the way down to 1.27 USD per euro around October of 2008 before it started climbing back up, with another drop back to almost the same amount a month or so later and then a steady climb to where it is now. I would have to go back and find out how long the introductory price was available to see if it covered any of that time when the euro was at a significantly lower value than the 1.56 figure you used.

Edit: I see it was only two weeks so your calculations are most accurate. For some reason I thought it was a couple of months that the introductory price was in effect. Wishful thinking I guess. You must remember, I have only been involved with MorphOS since right around that time and have no memory or knowledge of what went on before then.

That's what I meant when I wrote "it went for 111.11 EUR for the first half a month" :-)
