    Hello,

I have a problem with Mac Mini G4@1500 and the browsers (OWB and Sputnik) in the download file.

I think there is a problem with ?sumgem_eth.device:0?.

If I download something via browser (OWB and Sputnik), the download is very slow ! ; in MOS 2.4 downloading a file I have for exemple 10 or 15 kb/s , and if i reboot in OSX Leopard for the same downloading file I have for exemple 35 or 40 kb/s.
I have verify and always there is this problem with every website.

A beta driver ethernet for Mac Mini at the moment ?

    Thanks
    Regards

How about sharing what kind of hardware you people use?

A switch? A hub? Router? What brand, etc. Exact Mac mini model and its stats.

Maybe a common source for your problems can be found. Obviously in the MorphOS 2.4 testing phase none of the developers or beta testers encountered anything like that. At least nothing like that was reported. :)

I dont want to be negative but if with the rest of machines (included the same mac mini with osx) the connection run at full speed is cristal clears where is the "problem".

Anyway im using mac mini 1,42mhz 1gb ram connected to a router.

Clear? Well, to be able to correct the problem, more descriptive bug reports will help, that includes full details of your setup. I am getting >8MB/sec here.

I have a 1.25ghz mini with 1gb ram. I have a 30 megabit down cable connection from a Motorola 5200 cable modem to my Extreme-N base station. MOS is installed fresh with nothing added to it yet.

I have 10Mbps line for internet and I get OK transfer rates with Mac mini. With IBrowse I can get steady 1250kB/s download (ISP's proxy enabled). With wget and OWB I get speeds around 800kB/s... so they seem to be bit slower for download than IB. If the http_proxy env variable worked as I tried ;)

In 100Mbps LAN I get speeds around 10MB/s with FTP (although dl doesn't seem to get as stable values as upload... dunno why). But in general sungem_eth.device seems to be pretty fine for my setups.

Edit: all values measured when transferred to/from ram:

It does appear that there is a problem somewhere. In order to be able to do anything about it we first need to locate the problem. This means that we need a very detailed description of the network setup, even up to details about the physical devices used for the connectivity (exact model of the router or any other devices used for the connectivity).

I can understand the frustration, but we really do need good reports or we can't do much about it.

Unfortunately locating and fixing the bug can take some time. Meanwhile, if you happen to have some spare switch around it might be a good idea to check if connecting the ethernet thru it changes anything. My current guess is that it might be a problem in the autonegotiation. If you find any way to fix the transfer speed problem (by using a switch or by any other means) then please do tell us. This information would be very helpful.

    Hi Piru, details:

    Hi,

I use a Mac Mini G4@1500, 1gb ram, 64Mb gfx card, Airport, Bluetooth.
    PowerMac10,2
    PowerPC G4(1.5)
    Boot ROM: 4.9.4f1

TCP config (in MorphOS 2.4 and Leopard 10.5.8)
    IP 192.168.0.60
    Mask 24bit
    Gateway 192.168.0.3
DNS server 192.168.0.1 (my DNS server)

    also the same problem so:
TCP config (in MorphOS 2.4 and Leopard 10.5.8)
    IP 192.168.0.58
    Mask 24bit
    Gateway 192.168.0.3
DNS server (Tiscali ISP DNS server)
    213.205.32.70
    213.205.37.70

I use a SWITCH CISCO SYSTEM Catalyst Express 500 and an Appliance Firewall Hardware WATCHGUARD FIREBOX X550e (note all MAC ADDRESS are OK :-) ).

I think there is a problem with your ethernet driver with some Mac Mani G4, this is my idea; if you need i can help to solve the problem.

Tell me if you need other infos.

    Regards
    THANKS

    Hi

    very important update to you:
I have connected the Mac Mini G4 via ethernet directly to the Router ADSL (so no Cisco switch and no appliance hardware Watchguard) and I have the same problem ... always 7 or 10 or 15 kb/s in MorphOS 2.4 (no problem rebooting in OSX Leopard 10.5.8).

I think this can help a little :-)
Tell me if you need help to verify something to solve the problem.
    (Ruter adsl is Zyxel 660H-T)

    THANKS for the support.

Is there any environment variable that can be set up to force the driver to use a 10mbit full/half duplex network? He could try changing from 100 to 10 and also changing full duplex by half duplex to see if it helps.

In theory, this template applies for ethernet drivers:
    "10BASET/S,100BASETX/S,FULLDUPLEX/S,AUTONEGOTIATE/S", in "envarc:sana2/sungem_eth0.config"
So try such a config file with just "10BASET" and see it if changes anything.

    Hi guys,

I think narrowed it down: If I connected my Mini through my ancient D-Link DE-809TC Hub (10 MBit, even has BNC) to my ZyXEL DSL Router, Net speed was abysmally slow and unreliable. If I wire the Mini directly to the DSL router, everything is fine.

So my best guess for the root cause would be something low-level speed negotiation-related in the innards of the Ethernet driver...

Mini: 1.5GHz model. Under OS X, everything is fine with either net connection.

    Cheers!

    Hi Fab,

yes this solution help to solve at the moment the problem; do you think we can have solved this problem in next MorphOS 2.5 ?.
(for me I's more important then the mixer fix in wbstartup).

thanks a lot for the support

Well, it will likely be investigated, yes. But also consider it's not a common issue either, and unless the driver developer can reproduce it himself, it might be difficut to fix.

And what option did you force in that config file, by the way? If you forced 10Mb mode, it can be ok for internet downloads, but rather poor for local network. :)
