Gary's timing was just bad over at Amigaworld.net -- I don't think he meant any harm, but in the context of the day, it looked pretty bad. There was an earlier thread (right before his comments) that was about exactly what Gary got tagged for. Wrong place, wrong time.

As for the post at ANN -- it looked to be from and imposter (presumably, trying to stir things up again).

MorphZone is a quiet, civilized site -- you wouldn't be trying to stir things up, would you?

I'm tired tonight, so just consider yourself censored 8-D

Seriously, just don't post any links, instructions, or any given thing that could make piracy any worse than it already is. Whether you are talking about OS4 or MorphOS, piracy holds a far greater threat to this smaller market than any other market.

    Uhhh . . . I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not.

Since I was there while it happened, I thought I'd offer MY perspective. It REALLY did look Gary was explaining how & where to pirate OS4. His explanation "after the fact" seems reasonable, so I've taken him at his word -- it was just a misunderstanding.

The OTHER reason that I chimed in on this thread, was that I've been waiting for something to comment on since I joined here --

What is this? -- a forum, or an oil painting! ;-)

It seems like it's been really slow!

Why not play Civ2 on your Peg instead?

    Because I don't play Civilzation and I don't own a Pegasos.

    :-)

Edit: I added a "signature" indicating that I do NOT own a Pegasos, so that you won't feel the need to OUT me whenever I make a post.

I heard that somebody had gotten AOS4 to run on a Pegasos, so in a thread at Amigaworld.net about "future hardware possibilities for AOS," I mentioned what I heard.

Then the question of whether AOS4 was already being shared on P2P came up. I said I doubted that it was, but decided to check. I did a search and eventually found one instance in the search results. I don't know if the file was really available, or just came up in the results. Anyway, yes, it was just my saying it was (or appeared to be) available on P2P network that got me in trouble to begin with (7-day forum posting ban). They said I was "making it easier" for people to pirate the software.

But what really got me in trouble ("permanent" ban - actually 365 days) was messing with the moderator's edits of my posts. I thought the way he edited them was misleading to readers, so I then deleted everything, his edits and my name, etc. But the staff felt this was being disrespectful to the moderator, and that is what caused the long ban (which has since been reduced to 90 days, though I'm not sure why).

I didn't post anything at ANN.lu about this.

There's a long thread at moobunny.org if anyone is interested in this stuff, but I really hope you have better things to do. :-)

Although I don't think what I did really warranted such a severe reaction, I agree with klesterjr that a lot of the problem was bad timing and misunderstanding of intentions.

You might want to add that some people are a bit thinskinned and triggerhappy using Abuse-reports when your opinion does not match theirs.

So either take the heat or learn to play by their rules. Personally I have chosen the first option and will continue to write exactly what I think without spending too much time thinking if my opinion might clash with someones elses opinion. If this will cause me more Abuse-reports then so be it.

I won't pursue the merits of that statement one way or another (tempting as it may be) -- but that has nothing to do with what happened to Gary.

It is an oil painting! :-D Without the constant fighting about this 'n that, things can seem a bit, well, dull. On the plus side, generally everyone gets the help they may need.

Things generally pick up around here when someone releases something that blows up, or someone says something that makes people blow up... Either that, or timofonic has been slacking in his "I want this now" thread creationism sect. (poke: gotcha!)

You are correct, my post was a bit misleading, sorry about that. I didn't mean it happened in Gary's case. I was generalising based partly on own experience.

See.. 10 posts and we already had one misunderstanding.. I rest my case

Its a shame they did that to him. I read the post before it all blew up and I understood where he was getting at. The folks at AW.net seem to be like that more times then not. I think a good part of the A1 owners are pissed at the quality of the boards they get for OS4 and when one of us come in and start something like that they get mad. I know our hardware is built with much more care and thought, but I and several others (over 70% last I looked on there poll thread) that want OS4 on the Pegasos think its a good idea. I'd like to tyy OS4 final when its done, but not on an A1 if thats what I have to buy to use it!

Anyway your not out much being locked out of AW.net for a few months.

C'mon -- the Pegasos seems like a great board, but it has it's problems, too -- did the secondary IDE port or the giga-ethernet under MorphOS issues ever get resolved?

The problem with the original A1 isn't the two "fixes" (that it doesn't NEED, BTW), it's the way Eyetech handled it -- or rather the fact that they didn't really handle it at all.

I never said anything about being jealous and we have no 2nd IDE port issue on the Peg II, and the giga ethernet works fine, we just dont have a driver for MorphOS. Linux takes full advantage of it though.

The fact is well known the A1 has many hardware bugs and that is why I refuse to get one. Wanting to TRY OS4 does not mean I want to drop MorphOS. All the good software out for OS4 works fine on MorphOS or we have a version of it native.
