IMHO seems to me a great thing.

It opens completely lots of new scenarios...

Are all MOS components now already released or made public?

MOS 1.5: there are no excuses left not to release it.

AROS: could now benefit of Ambient...

    AOS4.0: also...

    Good, good, good... ;-)

P.S.: However now I feel to advice persons who want to sell their Peggy, to stop and see what is about to happen.
This fact could help in re-start MOS developing. 8-)

Hum, I'm not sure this is a good news...
An official release of MorphOS 1.5 seems impossible now... Sure, all developpers can do the same thinks, but, what about the Laire's kernel ?
This is THE important point, IMHO.

In the included readme it says it depends on the most current (ie. developer) versions of MOS.

Laire does not want to release it neighter seems to agree that someone else continue to develop it o work on it. Laire seems to be the main obstacle to MorphOS surviveing in this moment. Uncredible, we could say that in this moment the father of MorphOS is its killer.

Falcon you're right when you say "problem *was* bbrv". Now the scenario is changed, Genesi era is finished and in this new scenario the big ostacle for MOS continuation (in a different way as concepted and dreamed by Ralph at the beginning) seems to be Laire himself.

Oh now thats it! I am glad I sold my Pegasos even more!!! After all the shit he put people through he gives it away?? Its a sad attempt to try and win back some of his face. He tried to get more money and didnt think bbrv would drop MorphOS. It back fired on him and now this. Screw all that. This system can go to hell for all i care now.

What zapek did when refusing Ambient to Genesi was the right thing.
What zapek did opening Ambient and offer it to the users is the right
    thing, too.
When he doesnt want to work with Genesi and still want his work
used by the users all his steps make 100% sense to me.

Thanks David. (My paypal account was nearly empty ;-) will donate more
when its filled up again :-) )

when a compiled 1.4 Ambient version will running on my peg, I'll send
to David a nice Paypal donation.
It will be the first time I send money to thank someone and not just
    to buy a product.

    Congratulations David.

right, there's no way i'd give money for something i won't be able to use. Unless Laire changes his mind we won't be able to use Ambient 1.4, i'll be willing to give a big donation when we'll get in that situation (probably never).
i haven't lost hope but the ambient sources release didn't make me feel better, just even more sad.

    Following the discussion on #morphos
It seems as Zapek didn`t do us a favour here. Not only because Ambient won`t compile with 1.4 but because he has GPL´d Ambient, which makes it impossible to use it in future MOS releases. Therefore I am not so sure if we really should thank Zapek for that (another bad?) step.

    @Bladerunner

GPL is a good thing ! It keeps Genesi earning money (I know they never
will earn the money they put into MOS anytime soon) with zapeks work.
It does not keep ppl from compiling and using it.
Put a button in MorphOS "Download and compile current Ambient".
And you've followed the GPL because it was the user who
downloaded and compiled it for his personal use.

Maybe not a nice solution ... but better than nothing.

    Why should that be ?

Ambient under GPL means that you can't link SW based on it with non-GPL parts, unless they are part of the OS (like MUI for example).

There is nothing stopping anybody to release an OS bundled with Ambient as an "app" just as there is no problem right now to include mplayer or gcc.

I don't see a problem with GPL either - Zapek could still allow Ambient to be used in a commercial MorphOS 1.5. And if the MOS crew would set up and release such a new version in a Genesi-free way, I can't imagine a reason why he could be against this.
