My wife was addicted to BoXiKoN and I had to make an intervention, now she's a recovering addict who has kept away from the game for years. It might have been dangerous to get back into this, but I talked about her hiscore and checked couple of our MorphOS machines for her hiscores. On Pegasos1 she had 12545 points and on Mac mini 14883 points. I don't know my score at all, because I have dropped from the lists long time ago, something less than 10k for sure :)

My main hardware is still Mac mini G4/1.5GHz (1 GB RAM, 240 GB SSD).

Sounds good! I will pay for it when it's done.

I would see if Chris Edwards wants to chat about his PCIe Mac and the videos he made about it not to long ago.

That hardware is the fastest available to the OS, so it might be of interest. FYI, Acill will be presenting the same system at Amiwest if you want to cover that. He even upgraded it to the 2.5GHz processor... Nice job Acill!

@jPV: do you have a grab of a highscore please?
I can write 'jPV wife' or maybe she has a pseudo?
    Thanks for your hardware ;-)

    @matt3: Thanks for the info!
I will open a section 'MorphOS on YouTube' with the best video about MorphOS.
I will add them of Chris Edwards.

About AmiWest, if Acill could send me photos and a little text, it will be nice of course!

Here's a screenshot of the highscore table: Mipegram

All scores are her, and you can use Mipe as the nickname. She was going to make a better score, but now she told me that she remembers that I interrupted her playing because I had to use the computer for other "more important" things.. she was going to make even a better score, but I bugged her to stop playing :D

Sounds fun. I am more of an Amiga OS 4.1 user since I own an X5K but I installed MorphOS 3.18 on my X5K this year and on the fence about buying the full license.

Maybe some articles of how folks are using MorphOS now as "everyday" computers and show off what they use it for may help entice folks like me to buy the full license and use MorphOS more.

I used to have a Mac Mini with a full license but sold that LONG ago and more recently decided to dual boot my X5K so may be a good time for me to read a Fanzine like this to get excited about what MorphOS can and does do.

I would also suggest in the "basics" of working with MorphOS.

I'm talking from a personal experience, when I first started playing with MorphOS, there were so many small things that I just didn't know how to do or the interface actually works. ( Obviously this is heavily inspired by Amiga OS )

    Things like
    - The right click to bring up the menu bar
    - How to do theming, per application or in general
    - Why can't I move my windows "outside" of the viewport :-)
    - How to create new screens and how to swap to them easily with shortcuts
    - How does "installing" of apps work and where can I place them

    Etc.

It might get people to play more with the OS instead of maybe getting put off because it's frustrating not knowing how to do "normal" things.

But after I've learned to use the OS better, I absolutely love it!

Yeah, fair point, I think it's not just obvious where to get the information easily.

That's why I wrote the Getting Started - A Beginner's Guide to MorphOS article, but the question is how to get people to read any documentation :) I would think that it's in more visible place in the MorphOS Library (direct link from this forum and linked in the About MorphOS window in the actual OS) than some article in a certain issue of a fanzine... and articles are easier to update in wiki pages.

For example, I hate YouTube videos where people just go to present an OS without doing any preparation.. they always give worse impression of the OS than they could if they'd just read about the basics of it beforehand. But noo, they just go ahead blindly and expect things to work just like in a mainstream OS.. and don't find things that work differently, so the best things just get skipped and everything looks very limited. Wasted opportunies even if they think they are doing a favour for an OS.

Yeah, sorry this is not taking anything away from your excellent work in the guide. I have used it extensively in the past, was just saying that it needs to be more visible for new users.

Maybe a welcome prompt on new install with some links to it and other interesting info.

Yea... OWB's start page used to have a link to the Library, but I don't remember if Wayfarer has anything similar in the default settings. Also one place you can find the link currently is the MorphOS.readme file, there at the end of the Installation section it reads "For more information on getting started with your new MorphOS system please visit http://library.morph.zone/Getting_Started". Maybe the ReadMe file should be popped up after an installation...

    Hello TJ,

    Welcome back.

A good group of us use MorphOS for their businesses or daily productive work. It provides a great experience because of Iris, Wayfarer, PolyOrga, and other great native applications, as well as the 68k stuff that works (turbocalc, final writer, etc.) very well.

If you are going to Amiwest stop by and see Acill aka Paul Rezendes. He will be able to show you the above, and is raffling off a complete PowerMac with a MorphOS license. Look at the programs and the options and see how it works. He won't be lugging two monitors, so you can't experience that.

Chris Edwards provides lots of insight in his videos with MorphOS. He has shown how to setup dual monitors, ambient settings, Iris and Wayfarer uses. I recommend you watch those videos.

I just played with the applications and if I had an occasional question I reachout to the developer of the respective program. They are very responsive and involved. Jaca alone has put 5 good years and countless updates into Iris and Wayfarer as well as working on MorphOS itself. That is the real secret to MorphOS is the people in the community that create good stuff.

    Good luck!
