2024 - your expectations

    Well, another year has passed and wewelcome the new year 2024.
    Last year once again was not a year without sorrows but with lack of ease of life. Well, somehow we all get used to that I guess.
    MorphOS has nicely progressed though Wayfarer and Iris with the biggest benefit for daily use.

    What's in the pipeline for 2024 from a MorphOS POV then?

    Someone with deams, hopes, actual expectation, announcements - bring them on here!


    I do a rather blunt start:

    2024 - the year MorphOS finally takes over the world ;-)

    I just hope that the MorphOS Team will continue to work on the OS. We are in 2024 now and who would've thought that MorphOS (a niche inside a niche platform) would survive that long? AFAIR the first beta came out in 1999. This is just incredible!

    To make a long story short: Happy new year to all MorphOS users and Amigans!

    Well since my internal guesstimate for a 3.19 release has proven too optimistic I might have a chance of getting the panel stuff ready for 3.20.

    Other than that, plenty of unfinished projects still to done and at least 1 new project I really wanna do.
    Plus the usual 158 "that would be cool but I'll never get started" ideas that are always floating around.

    MorphOS fully backported to 68k that runs nicely on the Pistorm32/UAE/Amithlon etc.

    We can but dream! :)

    - A new RAPAGUI (Hollywood) with sort for number and date in listview
    - A new brain with C commands
    - New ports by BeWorld
    - New developers and "old" developers like Yomgui, Fab and the others do comeback
    - TinyRave
    - New version of SoundBankster
    - MorphOS 3.19 with new TinyGL from bigfoot
    - New version of PageStream
    - Finalized Easy2Install (support all archives from MorphOS-Storage)

    Thanks to wayfarer we are better off in that regard than in the hardware domain.
    A good browser can fill the void of missing native programs.

    Of course more native sw is pretty welcome.

    So true. We've got Wayfarer that is pretty modern and HW that doesn't keep pace with it.

    GPT volumes support for MorphOS, all PPC Macs from mid-2005 can boot from GPT volumes! The open firmware DOES support it! And most of us use the latest PowerBooks G4 or PowerMac G5, so we could boot from those volumes. The partitions on those volumes could also be easily resized. I just formatted the internal SSD of my PowerBook G4 with GPT Partition Map and created 4 partitions, 2 of them for MorphOS to find out 5 min later that MorphOS Installer does not recognize GPT Volumes... come on, we are in 2024 :)
