I'm posting this from a surprisingly stable developer's version of the latest revision to the Opera web browser.

It's quick, and quite a bit different.
I may adopt this over Chrome (and I haven't used Firefox in some time).
Has anyone else checked this out?

Get away from Chrome as quick as you can. It's well known for privacy violations, but the clincher was for me when I found it spawns a task that scans your whole system, apparently "for applications that might interfere with Chrome", and sends the data back to Google. Absolutely. Not. Acceptable. Worse still, when you delete that file, it spawns a new one. And if you make the file inaccessible to chrome, it spawns a new one in a directory with a different name.

Firefox Quantum is quite nice, as long as you give it a chance and start fresh and not over the top of an old Firefox. It barely works if you do that.

I've never had much success with Opera, despite the hype over its user interface. It struggles with some websites and the lack of commonplace extensions is a killer. Maybe I'll look at it again soon, as it's only a matter of time before Firefox bloats out again...

After my early days on pc with Netscape and some Internet explorer sessions in order to properly login in MS zone for online gaming in the nineties, I quickly ditch them both for Opera. That damn smooth scrolling, mouse gestures, multiple tabs, speed dial, customizing every UI aspect and the blazing fast property engine while keeping it much lower to resources compared to early Firefox were killing the competition.

When their engine though was falling behind technologically and had to adapt either to chrome or to the Firefox, everything came to an end. Opera was the fastest browser in PC for more than a decade as far as I can remember but then everything changed. The look and feel of old Opera can be found in Vivaldi browser in case anyone is interested. Nevertheless, it still uses a chrome engine which let's be honest, it makes it a generic browser with some different touches.

Apart from owb, these days I am not happy with the browser situation generally speaking. Especially old pc systems struggle on the internet because of that. Of course I am not neglecting the fact that internet technology changed it self and requires much more CPUs power. Still one would have thought that someone could spot this disadvantage and offer a browser for low end systems to actually browse the net reasonably speedy.

    Quantum ISN'T bloated?
    That is a surprise.

And Opera has worked for me in a pinch when other things failed.
I had an Android phone last year that repeatedly crashed while using Chrome that worked fine with the mobile version of Opera.

    And R3 looks clean.
That is what originally appealed to me about Firefox and Chrome.

So...if the Chrome browser is a bad player, I assume ChromeOS is equally evil?

Its created by the co-founder of opera, hardly bloated and has a lot of features for the power user thqt one needed extensions in firefox to achieve. (tab stacking, apple like quick commands, web panels) I don't like the mandatory revenue stuff in the opera speed dial hence i avoid, anyway its all based on chromium like vivaldi anyway. . I can't help you are running windows xp sp 2 and a pentium IV for vivaldi to be crashing on you.

No Vivaldi was crashing on an i5 based system. Quite frequently, or failed to load pages.
And I made sure if was a fresh install, not an upgrade.
I don't know where you got the idea I had a P4 system from, but I've never used or advocated that cpu.
And XP, since its no longer maintained, is obsolete.

    So, i5 & Win7Pro, not P4 & XP.
    Its just buggy.
