The gathering µAlchimie III is going on right now this weekend (25/26 October).

    http://triplea.fr/microalchimie/pages/index.php

The Alchimie gathering has several times in the past been a time and place for the release of many MorphOS news and interesting info.

I post this with the hopes that anyone attending there will keep their eyes and ears open, and kindly report back here to morph.zone if anything interesting is revealed!

    :-)

Here is something MorphOS related (I suppose):

The new Cost Reduced ("cr") version of the Sam460 motherboard has been shown at µAlchimie!

    http://www.amiga-ng.org/article.php?sid=943&thold=0

And a news update from Acube's website say:

"After the Sam460ex here comes the Sam460cr
    Bassano del Grappa, 25-Oct-2014

Since we created the Sam460 motherboard we have seen many of our customers adding to their board: a graphic card, a sound card and a SATA card. It was obvious that we could find a way to make a cheaper product removing the onboard audio, video and SATA features.

We then decided to produce Sam460 motherboards with the following components removed: SM502 audio/video chip, video connector and onboard SATA. This new Sam460 will have the same number of expansion slots (PCI, PCIe) as the well known Sam460.

This allows us to reduce the cost of the motherboard for our customers. That's why this new board is called Sam460cr, "cr" stands for "cost reduced".

Our shop will be updated later today.

Cheaper and still as powerful as before. :-)
We hope you'll enjoy the extra effort we do for all Amigans."

So I guess we'll have to keep an eye open at the Acube's webshop to spot the new, cheaper price.

And you present at the µAlchimie could perhaps keep an eye open for the eventuality of MorphOS actually running on the thing live? ;-)

Pricing information on the Sam460cr from 3 weeks ago to be found there:

What, you mean "about 13.5% cheaper"?

Exactly. 622.80 EUR is about 13.5% cheaper than 719.00 EUR.

Not seen any "cr" prices on Acube's own web shop yet, but indeed Comsytec lists their prices as:

    Sam460ex - 599 (719 incl 20% VAT) (Acube: 679,25 x 1,22 (IT VAT?) ~ 829)
    Sam460cr - 519 (623 incl 20% VAT)

Edit: Judging from this post, Comsytec prices does not include the cost for OS4, which I suppose makes it a *perfect* source for Sam motherboards for MorphOS enthusiasts I suppose! :-)

Still a lot of money for what you get IMHO! :-/

Anyway, back to the topic of µAlchimie III, are you guys having a good time? :-)

Surely someone has an Internet connection, and surely, someone there has seen this thread? ;-)

Yes, that's what I've reported 3 weeks ago in that other thread :-)

Yeah, still pretty expensive, but Acube's moving to the right direction at least. Unfortunately with small steps only, but better small steps, than no steps at all.

Hmm Ualchimie isn't like de big Alchimie, it's a friendly party with lot of friends eating and speaking from Amiga and Morphos.
The Alchimie with conferences will be next year.
Ualchimie is a less complicated party for the staff.
The staff can't assume a big party each year because of financial and sponsoring needs.

One real big Alchimie per year could result in a big waste of personnal founds for the staff.
The hall is expensive so they must have a minimum of 150 persons.
Think also that for alchimie all is included, we have breakfest and diner (with wine) for each person and each day.
It's only 40 euros for all of that.

    Good night all :-)

Right direction? Small steps? And what will the next step be? Omitting the CPU on the existing motherboard design at all to save *a few* euros more?

The Sam HW was *always* weak, it was years behind when it was introduced, now many more years has passed and the poor performance *remains constant*. Just as a reference of real world development; a plain passively cooled iPhone6 *running on slim pocket sized batteries* now peaks the same spec int results as a 2.5GHz G5, while the Sam460 is, what, 1/2 or a 1/3 of a year 2005 Mac Mini 1.5GHz G4 PPC?

IMHO the "cr" is about selling out components in stock that will soon be completely (is already?) unsellable...

    OK, I understand! :-)

Sorry if I blew things out of proportions in my original post, but I hope I wasn't, I was merely *hoping* for some news regarding MorphOS! ;-)

Anyway, have a great time all you there at the gathering! From the webcams it looks like a nice turnout! :-)

    Hi takemehomegrandma,

The WArMUp Association is on the place (5 members) :-D

There are about 11 MorphOS here.

Yesterday, there was the general assembly of the association, we have voted for the new statutes of the association (soon translated in english).
