Is it possible to get a small discount when purchasing a second license of MOS? I will be receiving a PowerBook G4 1.67GHz next week, and I'd like to buy an extra license.

    Please advise.

Wow, I guess that answer took a lot of inner soul searching.

That's why I call vision; sales & marketing vision. And it's the right one if we want to move up from a hobby OS to something more main stream. MOS has all the features of being a great OS product to open to the masses.

It could be difficult to set up such system reliably with the small resources. And there probably would be some misuse when one people would start registering for everybody, or even selling them with profit...

Would it help to be mainstream? Does any mainstream system have such discounts? Do you get discount if you buy several Mac or Windows machines where you pay for preinstalled OS? Is there any example anywhere? Do you get discount if you buy OS4 for Peg2 if you already have it on A1? And the biggest step to the mainstream would be to get the first licence sold for people.

But yeah, I think I've also talked about discounts earlier, which would certainly be nice, but it might be a hassle to get it up and sorted... it's usually better to keep it simple :)

I thought Microsoft Windows had something called Corporate Deployment, of which they offer discounts?

That does not mean I am in favor of a similar procedure for MorphOS.

I would however welcome this example: pay for register 100 installations of MorphOS, and then get 1 free registration of MorphOS! :-)

Who in their right mind registrers 100 MorphOS licenses? That's 10.000 Euros we are talking about!

Well maybe you could change the pricing. 89 Euros for a PB/G5 license would be nicer. and 69 Euros for the other systems.

It would be nice for myself to order three licences in one go and in that case get discount for two of those licences. (PBook, MMini, MMini)

Nah..keep pricing the same. To ME its completely worth it. I'm currently looking for a PB locally and as soon as I do, I'm buying another license.

At least here, no one laughs of bad grammar as in IRC channel...

I see it this way: Someone who uses two or more morphOS machines, it's supposed to have enough
resources to pay the license without discounts.

There's no commercial vision in MorphOS, it's a Hobby OS. Not targetted to mainstream.

Yes, there are examples with mainstream OS's out there. For example Apple offered 10.6 Snow Leopard as Single User Pack or as Family Pack for up to 5 machines and was much cheaper than buying 5 Single User Packs.

And since 10.9 Mavericks the OS is even for free since Apple seems to make enough money with the hardware sales. But I'm not sure if this give away is the best way to do it.

MOS is a hobby OS and for my understanding the money for the license is not for making profit but to support the developers to buy new hardware for more compatibility test. From my point of view there is no question they need this support and so I pay for one license.

Since I had problems with my first MacMini I need to buy a second machine just to localize the problem. Now I have two MM and since I already put much more money into this hobby project than I originally expect I will not buy an second license for the same prize. To play around with it one license is enough. And so I will use OSX on the 2nd MM and use it as an server.
But if the MOS team would offer an discount for someone who already has one license maybe I would think about it.

Kidding is just one thing, being unpolite another one very different !
But on IRC you just can't recover from an error !

Did you find the problem with your first Mac Mini?
That would be a very special case.
But why do you put so much money on a hobby? I would't do that,
    one license is just enough.

    I don't think that's going to happen.
    It would be cool anyway.

Yes, the first main problem was quite obvious I had an head crash of the harddisk of my 1st MM.

That's why I ordered an SSD and to replace it. But than I had the problem that then CD drive was not working as long as the SSD was inside. So I thought that maybe the power rail was defect or that the IDE controler at the logic board. At that point of time I was thinking that the head crash of the first HDD was only a consequence that the defect power rail that not provides enogth energy. This was a wrong conclusion but I did't know it at this time.

After I had the 2nd MM I replace all components step by step and found out that the 1st MM was working just fine and only the SSD causes the problems.

So, I had two problems the head crash of the first HDD and that I just for bad luck replace it with an incompatible SSD. But I need this 2nd MM to found the error.

Now I ordered another SSD from a different manufactor and this one is working fine.

I was always curious about other operating systems that's a kind of hobby. And for hobby many people spend a lot of money. And that was my point one license is enoth. At least as long as there is no family pack.

    +1

Albeit I'd suggest to lower the max price of 111.- to 99.- (looks better). Anyway i payed that price three times ''(IIRC for the mini it was actually 150.-) already and don't regret it. It's worth every cent.

If a 2nd license is required due to faulty hardware the team is said to handle free exchange licenses rather easily. Haven't needed that myself yet, all my hardwares are still running fine.
