    So first:

    1) MorphOS has to be UN-TIED from Ambient Legacy... (or it must continues to use only Ambient environment PREVIOUS to GPL)

    2) Provide another standard GUI

A guy nicknamed "MaaG" mentioned on this thread at the polish forum that Athene (codenamed "Nemesis") is "the new desktop for MorphOS".
I guess it's only a project, albeit a very interesting one: Rocklite's (ex-amigan Paul Manias) Athene is the most flexible desktop engine around, based in their own Pandora engine, which I believe once run on AmigaOS, in a very first version.

    Any more information about it?

Libs still need different licence. What if BurnIt wants to place AppIcon ?
Hope BigGun's suggestion will be addopted. I guess we'll see it with MOS1.5 :-D

Excuse me... Athene as a MorphOS desktop? Are you guys serious? You
might as well make a nice QT replacement and run KDE as it's desktop,
it will be just as smart an idea... (*NOT*).

MOS Athene isn't the same as the other Athene. Author didn't know, there had been deskotop names Athene. Now, he has changed the name of this project.

As I understand MaaG Nemesis has nothin to do with Athene. First the same name was chosen because he didn't knew Athene was already the name of an OS/desktop. Since knowing this the name was changed to Nemesis.

Well, fist I would be happy to see the Ambient 1.4 release. If Nemesis will be cool, powerful and MUI based it will be welcome as well. Let's wait till the announcement.

But whenever someone is going to port GTK or stuff like that I also say: Please *not*!
Side note: Wx would be cool, since it uses the native GUI toolkit, i.e. Wx for MOS would use MUI.

I would say *yes*, *if* it was really a source level wrapper GTK -> MUI 8-)

I think, it is possible, but it is hard work. You can try to do it :)
I think You will find people, which help You. The biggest trouble there
is inherited. I try to solve it in MUI++ (morphos port with some
    additional).

This is probably the worst idea I've ever heard. NO other desktop
please, work on the f*cking Ambient code, it's TOO advanced already to
be easily cast aside... (I should know, I spent the weekend hacking it
to compile on a 1.4 system and gave up yesterday after realising that
most libs in 1.4 are terribly out of date... even
    libc).

I think that is not a bad idea at all, but using the GPL license is not too good, better some thing like LGPL please...

This is something worth considering. David's work should not be set aside. But, as you say...

This lack of updated components is making developer's situation unbearable. How can anybody expect a system to freely grow if you keep core parts hostage?

I recall some pal here, nicknamed "Maurix", saying that there will be "good news" in the following weeks. Has anybody collected something positive about a next MorphOS release? It even doesn't need to be a revolutionary one, just release those core components to le the system grow!
How many different programmers are involven in those much needed components?

There are only two realistic options:
    1) Wait for 1.5.
    2) Make the code compile on 1.4 and expand it. It IS possible, it just
needs work but it will be MUCH easier than writing a new MUI desktop
from scratch, especially without Stunzi's help.

PS: @MaaG: If you decide to go on with the project, rename it to match
the MorphOS codename scheme, use a genre of music. I encourage you to
use Hard Rock or Heavy Metal!
    ;-)
