How many MorphOS2.x licenses do you own?

    Two.
One for my Efika, one for my mini. Some time ago I also wanted to register my Peg1, but when I pressed the button to register it failed due to no fixed MAC address and then I was too lazy to get hold of a network card. So the Peg1 stays with 1.4.5 and got more or less retired now anyway...
My 3rd license will probably be for a Powerbook, I hope.

    4.

One for my Peg 2, which I've just got fixed and is working well, 2 for MacMinis, one of which I'll probably sell on ebay, and 1 for Efika which I'll def. put on eBay when it gets abit warmer and people will have money etc.

You'd be suprised... Just look here. 1.x installed on 13 machines (and 8 of that are classic Amigas) while 2.x on 45.

Back to topic: Just one license here, for my dear Efi.

Thanks for the replies, I hope more members will do the same, but I am only interested in licenses that you have now, not any that you had before and sold. Also, I only need to hear from people that own more than one license key and know if they have 2, 3, 4, 5, or more.

So, there are 2,931 members here, with probably 30 to 40 that are active on the forums and the rest just browse the information here occasionally. At least it seems that way to me. From that I would guess that the number of MorphOS1.4 users at it's height was/is probably around 2,200 to 2,500 with the remainder of members here just being curious Amiga users that have joined to post a comment once in a Blue Moon.

That does not bode well for the transition from 1.4 to 2.x versions of MorphOS. It appears that only about one fourth or less of the 1.4 users have purchased a license key for 2.x. That is really not good and I hope the MorphOS Development Team considers this reality very carefully and tries to do something to get most of those approximately 75% of 1.4 MorphOS users to upgrade to 2.x and purchase a license key. Please consider as one option dropping the price of MorphOS2.x to 99 euros, or if that is not acceptable to the team, drop it back down to the introductory price of 111 euros. Do it permanently, or for a specified time period, but if it is for a time period, make the period of time several months, if not for this entire year. We really need those users and more. Please do not turn your backs on the people you had originally interested in MorphOS and ignore the many arguments (either unfounded or some with a bit of merit) pleading for a price change for MorphOS. If there is no practical way to change the license key from being tied to one machine, then please look into changing the pricing of MorphOS so some of the complainers will stop and we will get hundreds more users to upgrade from 1.4 to 2.x and also get some non-users to take the leap from the fence they are sitting on and choose to use MorphOS instead of any other alternatives.

As for the number of registered MorphOS2.x users (not machine license keys issued), my guess would be that there are only about 500 or less, as probably at least half of the people that own one license, also have one or more secondary license for another computer. And, as shown in this thread, some people have 3, or 4, or more registered MorphOS computers which could lower that 500 number even further. We are a rare group. No doubt about that, but with the current state of MorphOS2.4 running on the Pegasos, Pegasos2, Efika and G4 MacMini as well as it does, there is no reason we cannot double and triple the number of MorphOS2.x users in a short number of months ahead. With the release of 2.5 and support for the G4 PowerMac and possibly the G4 eMac in the near future, there will be even more opportunity to increase the ranks of MorphOS users (and hopefully developers too).

For those with multiple MorphOS2.x computers with registered licenses, I challenge you to make good use of them, or make sure they get into someone else's hands that is not a current registered MorphOS2.x user. Don't let them sit in a closet. Use them or sell them to someone who will, which will increase the number of registered MorphOS2.x users without any increase in the number of registered MorphOS2.x computers.

    Have a great day!

I'm with AmigaDave. MorphOS Team, bear in mind that I will pay 150e for PowerBook licence. I would even pay 500e if I have to - i just love MorphOS. But now there is a huge chance to get new users, especially when HW prices like MacMinis or PowerMacs are sometimes just funny, much cheaper that MorphOS :) At least try and see how is that gonna work..

While its a cool thread it would be much more helpful if Morph team gave us some kind of ballpark figure for how many registered users atm..

dake, you are my hero! I would consider trying to switch my Mother from MacOSX to MorphOS2.x when/if it ever gets released for her 1.33GHz G4 iBook, but she is almost 82 years old and her iBook is the only computer she has ever used (her 5 children, including me, bought it for her as a Xmas present several years ago so she could use iChat & Skype to do video calls to other family members, like my Sister that lives half a world away in New Zealand). She can barely handle using email and fails more often than not when she tries to print out a picture someone has sent her. I don't think MorphOS2.x would be a good fit for her, but I will try to get my Brother's and Sister's to take a look at it to see if it fits their needs.

    @Thread,

With so many members here asking for a change to the pricing of MorphOS, PLEASE do not write a single complaint from any of you if the team does lower the price after you have purchased it at the current full price. Other companies lower prices all the time on items without any regard for purchasers that bought the very same product just the day before, or indeed just hours before the price change went into effect. There will always be a few that get a bad deal by purchasing something and then having a price drop happen right after their purchase, so please, please do not make a single complaint if this happens to you if the MorphOS team ever decides to lower the price of MorphOS in the future.

Your 82 year old mother using computers? that's very very impressive!

I own 3 licenses for my 3 PegasosII:
    2 Pegs 1GHZ, 1Peg 1,266 GHz (MOS2.4+AOS4)
For 95% of my applications they are quick enough, but I would be enjoyed by a 2 or more GHZ-board and more powerfull grafix......
    Peg2, 3xPowerMac G5, 2xPowerbookG4, 2x MacMiniG4, Efika (again), A3000T and life is never boring.....

Just one for the mini and no more. I have to collect for my Amiga hobby and it reaches beyond the MorphOS alone.

Plus I assume buying software, that's funds too.
Was: Mac Mini PPC running MorphOS 2.4
Now: Amiga Forever 2010 with AmiKit and AmigaSYS
Not used: Icaros Desktop 1.2 (reason: no wifi)
    Planned soon: an OS4 system
Shortly then: a MOS notebook (wifi is a must-have)

That is really not good and I hope the MorphOS Development Team considers this reality very carefully and tries to do something to get most of those approximately 75% of 1.4 MorphOS users to upgrade to 2.x and purchase a license key.

I am one of MorphOS 1.4 users who is determined to buy MorphOS 2.x license because I love this OS 'cause it still feels and tastes like an old AmigaOS.
The only thing stands on my way is a bit too high price... but just for now I hope :)

Glad to hear that you are planning on buying a MorphOS2.x license key. Now if we can just convince the rest of the 74.85% of the 1.4.5 users that have not decided to upgrade to make the same choice.

Your assumption that there would still be 75% of 1.4 users that didn't upgrade to 2.x is quite wrong, i'd say. You overestimate the initial pool of MorphOS users. I doubt there were that many Pegasos sold (let's exclude the ones bought for Linux or for nothing at all :)).
