I played about half a year with morphos 2.4 on a mac mini, but the time out is really a pain since I multitask my work ...

Where to register? It is not clear for a "new" user. So basically I wan't to buy the keyfile.

I would really recommend a buy it now option visible in the top of the website guys this is not commercial.

The mac mini has currently nothing left on it after a failed debian experiment .. I searched other forums and found it needs to be installed and needs to have an internet connection.

I hope I can once I paid install it more then once on the same hardware?

I like to experiment a lot...

Of course. Just keep a copy of your keyfile safe and copy it back after the re-install.

Well this is life. Installation went fast. Waiting for the time out... I should look for a new monitor since this combination is very unhappy.

The registration requires binding to the MAC address of the client (unless some other funky new key generation technique is now in use).

Since you can only generate the required data from the machine-to-be-registered (on which you presumably have MorphOS installed in order to require a keyfile) and there exists a tool for this purpose on the hard-drive, this would be fairly redundant.

However, clearly it would be a benefit to make regtool more visible (@Devs - perhaps snapshot the icon on the desktop be default, and put-away the icon as part of the registration process?)

Multiple instances on the same individual piece of hardware: yes.
Installation on multiple machines: no. (See previous post for why)

Ok, I can understand that the developers need daily bread. Now that I am informed, I can learn to accept.

I did the regtool it did not work it failed.

Since I am typing on the mac mini I do not understand why... I will check time and date and retry it.

So can I just buy a second mac mini in reserve if this one fails ? I am not looking for ways to cheat but ways to protect my investment like a backup...

I do not expect this mac mini to live forever.

I have one question, where to start to ask questions and get the most out of this...

Obviously not, at least not "just" ;-)

In case your hardware fails irreparably and you can prove it to the MorphOS Team (whatever it is they accept as proof) then they'll provide you with a license for the replacement machine for no additional cost.

I registered my MorphOS copy too. Its very unfair that if one decides to upgrade the machine or some hardware fails it is a total hassle to obtain another key.

If the key is somehow attached to the mac address, then is it not possible that somebody hex edits the key and changes the mac address to that of the new machine?

    @Dougal

Possible? well.. could be perhaps, AFAIK no one has managed to do it yet.

Oh.. and how is it a hassle? The registration procedure has functioned quite well for me at least.

Why are people always acting like they have to move mountains to obtain a key for MorphOS ? All you have to do is press some buttons and maybe send an email when you have a problem...

Take some time to look in the mirror ... what would you do if it was your income depending on such a small userbase? Throw keyfiles out of the window ?

i wonder, if it's in most cases money issue, or if it's just about a principle. if i'd buy a new machine, i'd definetaly buy a new key also... MorphOS it's worth it!

    bye, MarK.

ps: and for more i do have 5 keys for now...

It so does... not. One of my friends had a Mac Mini (with registered MorphOS) that happened to break. First he tried to repair it, but with no luck. Then he decided to get another one and contacted MOS-Team (I don't know the exact procedure, but as far as I remember he got his new free keyfile the same day). How much hassle is that?

As long as you don't upgrade or break the part the MAC address is bound to (i.e. the mainboard) you can continue to use your keyfile. And if you decide to upgrade that part you can easily buy another license. No hassle involved.

Is the registeration process not working now?
I noticed the registration address seems to be similiar to the mailing list
address. I have been trying to change my registration name as I double entered
it originally but the email is bouncing.

    thanks
