Or maybe scene one demoed? Is there any reason why a full operating system couldn't be run on that machine? Say... Aos 3.1 with the proper Rom image... Workbench... etc?

What would you do with a full operating system(?) on such a setup?

I have an aging a500 with 2 gig hd that it would be nice to replace... given I could fit most of the operating system & files on an sd card?? Looking at the design I realize an sd card doesn't replace a hard drive... but I wondered if anyone has even tried to use one of these systems as a real amiga instead of just a games console?

Edit: I realize the Natami project may be more suited for system replacement... but at the price they estimate... its too expensive to be a replacement for a 500... honestly I'm not interested in buying another A500 ( 20 year old hardware) :-)

I think I recall someone picturing the Minimig as an A500, the Clone-A as an A2000 and the Natami as some A5000.

The only reasonable areas of use for the first two is of course playing old OCS games. Maybe you could boot a workbench, but question is why you would want to do that...?
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :-)
MorphOS NG will be AROS done right! :-)

Minimig accepts only 1.3 roms, can read ADF but can't read HDF (for the moment).

Minimig is a A500 clone, NatAmi is a 1200/4000 clone.

No it's not AFAIK, it's supposed to go *beyond* the AGA, it's supposed to become a *next generation* "Amiga" hardware. It's supposed to have features and performance that AGA never got near of, but still "in the spirit" of the Amiga HW Architecture. Remains to be seen whether anything will ever materialize at an end user level of course...

And for the moment, the NatAmi is a 1230 clone.

    Wait&See, as usual ;-)

In the Greek Amiga community there is a perosn who has ordered it. He
still waits for his order. We shall wait for some posts by him...

I do not know if an SD card could replace a hard disk mainly due to
the reason that only 8+3 filesystem is supported by MiniMig and I
think that no folders or sub folders are supported.

I have read that MiniMig is now sold out by Acube. Only a few left in
    stock by Versalia or AmigaKit.

I can see no practical reason to run WB in a MiniMig. It supports only
1.3.. So what someone is going to do with it? Maybe a WB 1.3 ADF cna
be loaded to get the classic blue screan and play with that Amiga
    Speaking software :)

NatAmi got lots of high hopes. Yeah it could be the next gen Amiga
taking as a fact that it would not be forgotten or ignored... Remember
that PowerVixxen project ? Back then there was a high hope on it as
    well... but...

For sure MiniMig can not run MorphOS....

    Can it run DMS archives?
I have all things archived with DMS.
    Recrunching it to ADF sucks...

nope. minimig supports ADFs only. and they are read-only for more... perhaps future firmware updates will support DMS and read/write capabilities...

btw: DMS->ADF isn't REcrunching, but DEcrunching... when You upack DMS to a disk image (FMS, HFS or sth), You can simply save those images as ADFs...

    bye, MarK.

I guess with an 8.3 file structure... the minimig just wont cut it for many applications... at least in its current incarnation :-(

Yeah, u are right, its decrunching and crunching/imaging again but that ofcourse sucks.
I have to keep my stuff as dms, so i would have to keep them double.
Also thinking if the decrunching -> ADF would work without trouble with trackloader stuff.

Isn't that for the names of the ADF images only? That is - "outside the emulation box"? Files *inside* the image should be normal, right?

The whole purpose of the device is to play A500 games, it's not like it was ever meant as a desktop computer. I see no reason to why browsing games images in a 8.3 format would be such of a problem?
