yep. I totally agree. Python would be an interresting addition. Is there Perl available for the amiga? If yes , then both Python and Perl should be brought over to MOS!

    I'm in complete agreement here.
It's not a language I've ever actually used myself but it looks like Perl in English.

I've done plenty of Perl and I like it but there is something of a learning curve to put it mildly. I know one guy who one described perl as a "write only" language!

Python allows you to do a lot of the same stuff but looks a *lot* easier.

What's wrong with the existing port of perl?

With native MorphOS Python, we would get back lots of linux' python developpers :-)

It's working, but I can not import some libraries that are supposed to
    be built-in... such as "os"

    Code:

    ImportError: No module named os

There goes my attempt to try porting "portage" ;)

Maybe next time :p (tomorrow with the next release, 5c?)

    The 5c is almost there....

5b seems to work well on my Peg1 (but I didn't try it much).

In fact I wait Yomgui's "green light" to upload it on Python's WikiPeg page (http://wikipeg.free.fr/wikini/wakka.php?wiki=Python).

If think it should be available in a couple of days.

    Lugduweb (WikiPeg webmaster)...

Anyway : anyone interested by this project can send an email to Yomgui to be beta tester.

That is great news. If we get a Python port to MOS then someone would be able to do a NATIVE FREEVO port :-o :-o

Yomgui is working on it for a very long time to make a as perfect as possible port of it, in fact not only a port, but a library that could be used, for exemple to make a Blender port ;-).

I can't discuss about it since I'm not a programmer, but I'm sure the result will be great :-).

    Hello,

So, as you know, I've ported Python-2.4 on Morphos. There is 2 links on this page to know more things about it. But it's in French so for my English friends, I'm going to explain you more details here in this langage:

    - My port has starded in August 2004.
    - It's a NATIVE port => no ixemul. I've recoded many functions of libc !!
    - Morphos version is the first one to be a shared library on all "Amiga compatibles".
    - It's not last good thing: You 'import' dynamiques C modules ! and there will be a SDK to create your own module (easy, as described in official Python documentations).

Some guys have a private archive (as lugduweb or henes) to play a bit with it. So, it's not a vapor-ware ;-)

It's time to have great applications on Morphos ! 8-)

PS: Versions 4.x on the wiki works, but you must put the content of Lib/ into LIBS:python2.4, or run the binary on the root of sources (Python-2.4/) path, or you can't do things like "import os".
    Check this with Snoopdos... ;-)

    Regards,
    Yomgui

    And now... next project!

Ok, I'll do my best to release something for the next Monday (20050502).

My current code seems to be able to load dynamique modules (Python C modules are seen by the system as shared libraries, named '.pylib'). But I need to do some tests before release.
    And now... next project!
