should we laugh or cry? ... :-?

I mean, one excuse some could say is that if MorphOS was used by more than 90% of PC users in the world, they would surely find plenty of bugs and security holes.

But then, M$ have lots of money! = developers! .... maybe they lack GOOD developers? :-D

    "Developers, developers, developers"
    "Developers, developers, developers"
    "Developers, developers, developers"
    ...

Anyway, I stick to linux even on my Pegasos...

I just think they do not care. they have 90% like you said, why not use them as testers to find the wholes so they dont have to pay people to do it.

everyone who uses windows is a tester hence when an aplication craps out on you it askes "would you like to tell microsoft about this so we can fix it" or something along those lines.......when they really mean "can we have all teh specs of your computer so we can see what your doing at all times?" :-P

Well, if they DID make a "perfect" windows release without any bugs, who would buy the next windows release? ;-)

Obviously same goes for lot of commercial software aswell...

I'd like to point out that I'm atonished at the amount of knowledge some people have. This trick of the buffer overrun, as explained to me by my, demands extreme craftmanship at assembler code. Also, it's kind of universal; if adapted, the trick may work on any computer.
Can anyone here explain it in detail?

I would think a big part of how it works may be the inclusion of some type of "Smart" picture code or something. M$ would do something like that, and someone finding a hole isnt hard when M$ pisses off so many people.

This is what pissed me off the most, as do a lot of the fixes they put out.

"Microsoft said that anyone who has downloaded and installed the SP2 update for Windows XP is not at risk from this vulnerability."

That just shows that M$ knew of the holes before the word got out, but just let it sit thinking it wouldnt get discovered.

Pissing on MS/Win won't make MorphOS any better...

On the other hand there are a lot of things implemented on MS/Win that MorphOS lacks...

Who pissed on MS/Win? A serious hole was found not only in Windows, but in all the MS products that support the Jpeg standard on a windows machine. Its serious and should be known about is all.

Paul, before you go knocking Windows, let me inform you that Mac OS X has been found to have more critical security holes as well as regular security holes than Windows, Apple is just better than Microsoft at keeping it quiet because of their smaller userbase. I can probably track down a link to the article if you're interested; but dont pretend that Apple gives your computer a magic condom that is perfect and protects you from everything. ;-)

I've read it, HERE and I also use the updates for OS X as they come out. None are as bad as most of the Windows though and Apple makes it a mission to fix them rather then let them sit like M$ does. I still dought the facts in all that though.

My point is Apple actually works to help customers out at a great deal faster pace then Microsoft ever will. When was the ast time any security hole in OS X actually got exploited before it was closed? I havent found a case yet. Most of the holes they talk about are from older versions as well. 10.3.5 is quite secure.

If I were to leave the Pegasos it sure wouldnt be to join a Windows one!

Just to throw my four cents in... :-D

I use both Apple's Mac OS X (10.3.5) and Windows XP Professional, because I see benefits in both platforms. Lately though, I have become so sick and tired of the bloated cost of supporting a Windows or Macintosh computer.

My A500 and CDTV, from long ago, did not cost me much to use on a daily basis. I actually enjoyed using them, something I am no longer feeling using Mac OS X or Windows XP. There comes a time when enough is enough. This is why I recently purchased two brand new A500s and two brand new A1200s (very cheap) - time for some retro computing. :-D

Now, enter the Pegasos II running MorphOS...

In this relatively new platform, I see the excitement and fun again in computing. This is why I have decided to eventually switch entirely over to the MorphOS/Pegasos platform. Whenever I can afford a new Pegasos II G4 motherboard, I will start the process of moving over to accomplish this. I want to learn everything about the OS quickly, so I can begin some programming.

Also, I really like this community, here at MorphZone. Many of you are quite helpful, and I hope in the future I can contribute a lot here. The main thing I like here is that everyone generally respects each other, something you don't normally find in many forums (I won't name any names). ;-) This is good for people new to the MorphOS/Pegasos platform, as it will build a very strong community in the long run - this is needed very much as Genesi gets closer to going mass market, whenever that may occur.

All of this kind of reminds me of when the Amiga first came out... Hardly any software, hardware, etc. People took the plunge into the Amiga platform and made it incredibly awesome, no thanks to Commodore. The same can be done for Genesi's MorphOS/Pegasos platform. People have to start thinking about actual applications and games, instead of how many emulations we can add to MorphOS. There are a few commercial apps and games that run under MorphOS now, and that is a great start. I am going to buy all of them when I can, to support the developers that do bring out MorphOS-complied apps/games. :-) I think this new platform is going to become very popular - just a "gut" instinct.

    Back to my studying... :-)
