I remember when Honda actually tried to sell the car model "Honda Fitta" in scandinavian countries (quickly renamed to Honda Jazz).

How about the time Microsoft sold Windows95 on the telly to background music singing 'and you will be condemned to hell to writhe in agony' in Latin?

As for new processor cooling, I always liked Manchester Computing Centre's solution of having water cooling with a fountain to disperse the heat.

I'm sure many know the MegaDrive but I wonder how many of our Italian friends know it was made by a company called "Sega"?

Almost everybody: but they carefully advertised it on TV reading "Sega" with english accent. Anyway, there still were a lot of jokes here, as you might imagine :-D
But I don't think sales were harmed, in fact the Megadrive outsold by a good marging the SuperNES, even though IMHO the latter was both better and had better games...

    Kind regards,
    Andrea

snes better than megadrive? It's relative...

Snes in theory has more colors but is slower...

Megadrive is faster (68000 vs 65802) and in theory is worse in graphics than snes...

But you can see some games as Aladdin in megadrive that is very nice-looking ;-)

So, no spread old FUD from nintendo...

Both consoles are good, but one isn't better than the other, each one has better things respect the other...

And mehgadrive has very good games, some people could like more the megadrive games than snes games, but I like both and I have both...

The Megadrive got Super Skidmarks, so wins hands down in my opinion :-D

Dare I ask what Sega means in Italian?

According to the page below they pronounced it as "see-ga" whereas everywhere else (even in England) it's pronounced as "say-ga"!

A Page with loads of this sort of mistake is here - some very funny stuff there, and on the rest of the site.

The correct pronounciation of "Sega" is "sehga" - sort of inbetween See and Say.

The only reason we say "Say-ga" is because western jaws are not as tense as eastern ones. "se" and "ga" are distinct syllables joined together in a word - our habit is to join them with a change in pitch. The Japanese hold their breath and don't go GAHHHHHH at the end either.

Say-ga also sings better (see every post-Sonic Megadrive game.. :)
