    Hello,

i start a new project named Easy2Clean. The goal of this tool is search anomalies on your SYS partition and propose to clean it :-)

For now, the tool will create a database of all files with md5 (signature of the file) from SYS: after a fresh installation of MorphOS 3.20 (without .info) and after you could compare your SYS: partition with this model. Maybe there is some differences between installation version (Efika, X5000, i will see that)

It will show a output list with:

    - files not present, modified.
    - twices files between SYS: and MOSSYS:
    - files bad placed (.library in devs/ for example)
    - etc.

a color could be attributed for each category:
    - red: very very bad
    - orange: very bad
    - etc...

If you think to others things to check, don't hesitate to say here.

[EDIT] first beta available on ask, please contact me if you want to test it, need to have MorphOS 3.20 installed.

if somebody has one or some red lines is MOSSYS:, he can offer me a coffee 🙂
a RED line is "in the reference but missing" or "present but MD5 different" or "present but absent from the reference"

@ Papiosaur - well I won't be testing it, well not right away, as v3.20 is currently a failed release for my hardware iMac G5 A1145 - as it can cause my system to totally lock-up/freeze, so I have to wait for the v3.20 to be fixed for my hardware until I am prepared to install it.

That is even though I was incorrectly accused of being the likely cause of the "freeze" with v3.20, due to some residual files from the old Chrysalis Pack on my System partition. That has now been proved NOT to be the case . . . it is the v3.20's release itself for iMac G5 iSight hardware that is the culprit - which is actually the MorphOS Dev. Team's failure for releasing it . . . not mine, when incompatibilites in the release still existed for iMac G5 iSight hardware !

I do not like being accused of such instances "out-of-hand/glibly", and then telling me, and I quote the words of geit "You are on your own now," which was said without him even checking my observations for this release, as geit is one of the MorphOS Development Team, and I would have hoped that he would have, at least, checked out what I had experienced as it was alarming for the system to "freeze" like that, just by playing an MP3 in the system supplied music player Jukebox!

As it turns out I have proved that the issue is in the v3.20 release itself, and . . . not my system setup! I was quite distressed that I was treated with virtually no regard, merely due to some extraneous files that had been causing no trouble on my system for over 10 years. That said my system has now been cleansed of files that were residual, and unnecessary from that Chrysalis installation.

The trouble that needs cleaning is the bug that has probably been created, not found, or been left still in the v3.20 release by the MorphOS Development Team. So they may need to be your first betatesters, to ensure they don't go making the same mistake with the next MorphOS release! ;-)

I am not asking for the old/original Chrysalis Pack to be resurrected, I was just thinking that a NEW starter enhancement pack for new MorphOS users to allow them to easily expand or modify their systems with already MOS Dev. Team authorised alternative collections of skins, default icons, etc. to enable them to get the aesthetic look of their system that they prefer in as easy a way as possible - without the troubles of the old/original Chrysalis Pack. That was my suggestion. 8-)

From my point of view Starter enhancement pack is not needed.
Such packs are not bad, but even if you are careful, in the end you have system messed with many application you not want.
And to have authorized packages of software in real means, that MorphOS devs need to check this packages. So it takes their time.

What I missed in MorphOS was updater tool. And for this serves now Papiosaur´s Easy2Install. Of course, it needs careful use with installation of software, but it helps much.

Easy2clean looks also very nice. For me especially nice feature is comparison of SYS: and MOSSYS:

    Thanks @Papiosaur for nice tools!
