I have an aluminum G4 Apple Powerbook

It SHOULD support 2 GB of Ram I now have 2 512 Mb that works fine and I have been trying to expand the ram to 2 GB. I tried 3 different 2x1Gb bought on E-bay an none of them work..

I of the set's even promised to work with G4

I do know that both ram bays work since I have 2x512 giving 1 GB together

I guess this is a kind of problem how the Ram is constructed and the amount of chips on the ram..

Can someone advice what to buy ?

If your PB is of the last generation (5.8 and 5.9) you can buy just on 2GB DIMM and leave the other slot empty.

...and 1.7 GiB with MorphOS 3.10, so having 2 GiB installed will make sense even for MorphOS.

Well I do run Morph OS registered version on it. and would like to have the extra ram.

Ordinary SOdimms don't work so I guess it have something to do with the type of chips that is on the memory sticks. I have 2 512mb Hynix 2r x16 pc2 4400s- 444-12 they work fine.

I don't know that that is the case. When I needed to upgrade my iBook I just re-used some memory I had laying around (with the qualifier that it might have been pulled from a PowerBook - I have a LOT of dysfunctional parts machines).

BUT - Don't let anyone sell you on the BS that Apple hardware somehow needs 'special' memory.
EVERY Apple I have ever worked on has used easily obtainable memory.

Well, tell that to my PowerMac G5 - at first it refused to work with high density DDRs, then it randomly picked the other ones I've thrown at it. Now I have a total 6 GB of RAM (just 2 working 1 GB sticks missing) but many more grey hair on my head...

    That's odd.
I transferred 8 GB of memory I had laying around into mine and it worked fine.
I've since sold the memory and the G5, but I've had similar results with my Quicksilver and MDD G4s, and the PCIe G5 I have uses whatever DDR2 strips I put in it.
