    hello,

I came a long way to finally have a (kind of) working Morphos 3.9 install, next to other OSes.
(other OS, fans do not start to run)

When booting from live-cd, everything´s fine - BUT when starting Morphos 3.9 from hdd, the fans starts to spin as soon as it boots up and when I open a tool, like the "mounters", it kind of crashes.

I can not scroll down the devices-list or even shut MOS down, without switching ibook off :(

Man, that´s kind of sad... is this a know issue or is my install broken?

    best regards!

    !

If the cd is working your installation is broken. You probably installed files to wrong places or autorun applications causing trouble. This usually happens when you install software collections of some kind.

There is a way which *could* fix your problem. Boot from CD and simply reinstall/repair without changing partitions. This will fix replace all MorphOS files without deleting any data.

This may work. also Check Wbstartup drawer for any random icons and remove them. Same goes for the user-startup and network-user-startup in S: drawer. There usually applications will be autolaunched. Adding a ";" infront of the names will deactivate the launch, so you can sort out the real problem.

    hello geit,

    thanks for quick response...

so I "updated" my install from CD and I recognized, the fans are spinning, too (I was not aware of it before, because the cd-rom is a tad louder, than the fans)

So live-cd does also starts the fans to run...

I checked WBStartup folder, but there´s only "mixer and mixer.info" inside.
User-stratup and network-startup were there and just looking normal.
(reminds me to setup wlan, which works like a charm, btw)

Just checked a few more things, till I´ve found someting interesting:

In Mos Preferences -> Laptop -> Advanced Use active cooling between "40" and "66" deg. celsius
was the cause for the allways on fans... I set temps to "51" and "68" and fans firing up every 3 minutes for a very short time, then go back to sleep.

I also set "Adjust CPU frequence between full and half speed" to "on" (for all power modes)

No it runs a lot quieter. But I am not 100% sure on the temp values. What range is safely to operate ibook G4 1.07Ghz?

    kind regards

...but still "Mounter" lists all partitions once, then does not respond any more (can not be closed, or refreshed) and I am not able to choose some partitions to mount :(

Does "Adjust CPU frequence between full and half speed" to "on" work for ibooks?

    (MOS 3.9)

hmmmm - if it´s not supported, this could be pretty much the cause for the heat/fans kicking in. if I boot to debian 8 (which supports clocking down the cpu by 50%) I never heared any fans running yet, because most of the time, cpu is clocked at 50%.

I will try to install some system-meters and see, if CPU is 100% all time time...

It sure isn't, regardless whether DFS2 is supported or not. Also, a CPU meter won't (directly) tell you the current clock rate of the CPU.

hmmm, but maybe I can guess-timate it by watching the graph or so...

But it would be even better, if a developer could tell us, what´s it all about.
I am seriously thinking about buying a license, but I´d like to have a clue of the OS, if it will fry my machine or not ;)

DFS2 isn't used on anything else but the fastest PowerBook models, sorry. That doesn't mean the CPU will get very hot when idle, though.

You can safely set the active cooling threshold at 60C min or even more. It won't fry :) I have it set in a 62-70 range myself.

    Ah, great!

So setting it to 56-66 should be ok, I believe :)

If I can sort out the "Mounter" problem, I think I´m set!

    Very impressive and responsive system!
