The very successful PowerDev Meeting 2 was hosted this past weekend at Guido "Geit" Mersmann's place.
Check out the discussion about it on PowerDeveloper, which also contains information about the first meeting, held in Poland.
There is a first batch of photos, which confirm what we knew: The most mature MorphOS 2.0 was there (along with the confirmation that "it WILL be finished in Q2, that's for sure", and also 8610 and 5121E development boards.

This is what Geit said after the event:

"First of all thanks to all the people visited us at PowerDev #2.
We were overrun by people who wanted to participate with their own systems. It took some management but I think it worked out best for all.
During the event we had loads of talks about all kind of problems and solutions. We had a blender workshop and showed DVD authoring using MorphOS on Pegasos systems.
I would call this event a big success and we are looking forward to see this amount of power and all those ideas grow in the near future, when MorphOS 2.0 will be released to the masses.
The Efika 8610 board is the successor of the pegasos 2 everyone is waiting for. That was very clear from the beginning. Many thanks to Ingo 'Skyrider' Hoppe for updating the OS and showing the system in action. The Efika 5121e (aka Efika2) was more or less seen as basic system to get in touch with the PowerPC architecture. Well, in my opinion the Efika is underestimated by people only seeing the specs. The Efika combined with MorphOS is a powerful system and thats what we tried to show the audience. And I think it worked well, as we frequently got asked which system is running now.
Special thanks to BBRV, Freescale and Genesi/bPlan making this event possible.

    Thanks!
    Geit"

Erm... Thank you, but actually, I did nothing: It was Guido who prepared everything for the attendees to enjoy such a good meeting. I wasn't even there (what a joy that would have been).
    I'm just your ordinary lurker...

It's a pity that such an important event gets missed in this MorphOS site. I guess that we are too few to work as reporters. Let's hope the imminent release of MorphOS 2.0 solves that. But it would be better for MorphOS to find a broad audience, and not rely on the small group of fans we are.

This is great news. My wife was trying to convince me that it was better for me to buy an Apple, but now I can wait for the new Morphos.

YUUUUUHHUUUUUU!!!!! We are going to jump in the 2.0!!!!! :bloons:

    @ jcmarcos:

Well.... You did much more than you think. Ok, you weren't there (nor was I)
but as you wrote, someone missed this great piece of news.... NOT YOU!! ;-)
Guido did all the work in a very special way. I hope he will be an example of
how to do in the future.
And yes, we are a few.... But as we say here in Italy:"Pochi, ma buoni.."
("Few, but good".. and I hope my translation is correct... Although my
english needs a full practice... :-P).

    Compare. Efika? My ass!

You are correct again, but this is not something to be shocked at: The boards shown at Power Developer 2 were not Efika boards made by bPlan for Genesi, because they still don't exist. Many people already knew, or supposed it.
These are "regular" developer boards (they aren't even built by freescale, as you point out), which have been sent already to some developers. When some amount of software is ready, then it's time to build the final production boards.

The AmigaONE was no more than a rebadged Teron developer board (made by MAI Logic), just like the first Pegasos prototype. But the Pegasos I turned out as a production board made by bPlan, just like its successor Pegasos II and the Efika.

Of course, you already know this, I'm echoing it for the people that didn't notice when it was said some time ago (I remember having said so myself).

That PowerDev logo looks suspiciously like the KDE logo,
    compare

    http://amiga-lan-party.de/Meeting_0508/image_03.html
    and
    http://www.kde.org/stuff/clipart/klogo-official-lineart_simple.png

    :-P

On a more serious tone, if Efika1 = MPC5152, Efika2 = MPC5200, what is the relation to the MPC8610 ? Is this just part of a general training or the Pegasos 3 ?

These are not only "not Efika boards made by bPlan for Genesi", but these are no "Efikas" at all, contrary to the claim of geit and others. That's the point.

    > because they still don't exist

Exactly. So there's no need to call some (not quite) random boards "Efika" and thus create the impression they were made by bplan/Genesi.

    > they aren't even built by freescale

The MPC5121eADS ("Hellrosa"), yes. With the MPC8610HPCD I'm not quite sure.

    No, Efika1 (= Efika 5k2) has MPC5200B
    (There is even no MPC5152)

    > Efika2 = MPC5200

No, Efika2 (= Efika 5121e) is supposed to have MPC5121e.

    > what is the relation to the MPC8610 ?

The MPC8610 is supposed to be built into the Efika 8610.

    > Is this [...] the Pegasos 3 ?

According to Genesi, "Pegasos" (the name) is dead. The future is "Efika" (again, the name).

Looks like a fun and positive meeting. Its good to see life left in the community. Also nice to see Genesi still striving with new HW. However, once again PITA screenshots of MOS 2.0 the only thing shown is digibooster and reggae. Its like ppl are under NDA cmon lets have some real shots please.

havent you seen the reports of that french party (alchemie 07 i guess)? there are not only screenshots but videos showing video-thumbnails in ambient, cube3d and stuff like that. those videos available even on youtube. what else do you want to see (except for the real thing of course)?

btw i like ambient screenshots a lot, often browse them in various forums (well, its kinda past now as i've seen almost all of them:), but as developer's ambients are quite boring, i prefer wait when users can post theirs:)

    Reports and videos available!

The guys at Amiga-news.de have posted some links to photos and videos, most notably Amitopia TV's report, who can be downloaded or watched online. There are also smaller downloadable videos of the 5121E and 8610 development boards.

On http://www.geit.de are additional pictures from PowerDVD and a funny DVD available for download.

The DVD was created during the meeting and contains not much "live video" to keep it short. Its just a demo made by Carsten 'PegasosSigi' Siegner to show how animated menus and video DVDs can be mastered on Pegasos using MorphOS and only MorphOS.

This even included a real blue screen effect. The blue screen we set-up was created by using two bed sheets. Even with the limited time, lighting and using bed sheets it looks quite nice for a non money invested production. :)

Thanks Carsten for the nice work! And of course for teaching other people how to use Blender. Thanks!

    Geit
