i was searching around the internet and found this device...

    http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/HowTo/AddVGAAdapter

it seems that someone is already working on a linux driver... could this driver be ported to MorphOS...

if so, you could run a usb2.0/firewire card in the pci slot and be able to run a faster media drive like dvdrw...

    just a thought...

USB2VGA devices require USB 2.0 to work - high bandwidth. Doubt support for it would be added to MorphOS and no good with USB 1.1

Efika2 & LimePC will have USB 2.0; Better to wait for one of these and hope for quick MorphOS support. Efika1 has USB 1.1 which works at 12 Mbit/s. So, it'll be very slow but should work.

Something else that *may* work for you to be able to use DVD-RW drive.
Efika1 has laptop 44 pin ide connector.
    1) Buy laptop, 44 pin ide cable to connect two ide devices ( hard drive & dvd drive ).
    2) If using desktop, 40 pin ide dvd-rw drive then also get 44 to 40 pin converter.
Connect everything up and hopefully it all works.

I believe the laptop ide port supports 2 ide devices ( like in desktop ) & hopefully firmware supports both also.

These are your two options to use dvd-rw with Efika1, USB or IDE. USB will work for sure & I believe the IDE method will too.

the idea was to use a pci riser with a pci usb2.0/firewire card... instead of using an agp video card...

i may still try this, since i will most likely be runnin linux for a while...

Ok. For some reason I was thinking you were going to use the usb 1.1 off the Efika ( for the video ) didn't realize you meant to use the usb 2.0 from the add in card for the video.

The usb2/firewire card will have the speed required for the video if you can set it all up in Linux. Should be possible to do.

So go for it and let us know how it works out.

I believe the IDE solution is better because it should work in MorphOS too but you'd have to mount the hard drive & dvd drive to the case.

You wanted to put in usb2/firewire card into pci slot ( or use pci riser ) and for the video use a usb2video adapter with the usb2 card. Got it. Maybe you can convince someone to make a driver for MorphOS.
