    There are several new users who are waiting for MorphOS
    to run on their EFIKAs.

    All you guys say is that we can all use 1.4 today.. Well,
    guess what. No we can't!

    Hence one of the reasons I wrote there are exceptions...
    OTOH, and even if I know a least one, I doubt there are many people who bought an Efika for MorphOS and did not have any other real machine to run it.
    It is a bit sad support for this hardware was announced so early. But it is the way Genesi works :-/

    @wali

    That is called marketing.
    And libraries simplifying developing programs are mostly shared version of zlib, libpng, etc... stuff any programmer can recompile in a few seconds and statically link anyway... Nothing big. This is serious, if some "programmer" believes it is too hard, I would not trust any of his production.
    The rest is already released (TGL, MUI, Reggae, etc...)

    The reality is either:
    1) release (sell?!) some shit MorphOS beta in a hurry (remember MorphOS 1.0 to 1.3?)
    2) take the time to have something remotely usable

    1) means all angry users (customers?) will run after you when they will discover the horrible bugs or unsupported features they took for granted. Specialy when you need months to fix them. And it would be just simply and purely insulting for users/customers from my pov.

    2) means more delays. But I read two or three times MorphOS was in a debug-before-release phase now. So it is not 2004 anymore...

    In any case that will not bring any new application and, if we do not want a new MacOSX where everybody drops support for the previous version as soon as there is another one, programmers will have to make MorphOS 2.0 support optional anyway. Unless it comes free of charge, maybe.
    So I don't see the point and I use a years old MorphOS base anyway.

    @Henes:
    Not everything important was released yet:
    The gigabit-driver is missing.

    Gigabit was the reason, why I switched from Peg1 to 2 ...
    Linux works well with gigabit, but for MorphOs I must keep the 100Mbit-Wire in parallel .. not very professional

    you can try to explain my wife, why there is still no Mos for the EFIKA that stands under the TV. she accepted the EFIKA only because it is really quiet and small, otherwise she have not allowed me to have a computer in our living room.

    @Henes,

    If MOS 2.0 is not working on Eifka that should be no reason to delay release for Pegasos owners and early adopters who have supported MOS from the beginning.

    If there are other reasons, fine. But I disagree with the marketing and communication strategies of the MOS team regarding future releases. But to each his own.

    As I said on IRC I don't use MOS 1.4.x because of a critical bug that Laire said is only fixed in 1.5 or higher.
    A4000/060/PPC-200MHz, A4000T/060/PPC-233MHz, CD32, MicroA1, Pegasos 2 G4, AMD Phenom Quad Core 2.5GHz, MacMini 1.5GHz/64MB VRam...mwwmwahhh :)

    In case she cares, you could tell your wife::
    - Efika support is dependant on MorphOS 2.0 which is not ready yet
    - to be polite, Efika hardware is "different" and close to no existing driver can be used without prior modification
    - the one programmer with an interest in Efika did not have much spare time this year
    - others are filling the gap but it takes time.
    - Efika will not run WiiFit.

    Thanks for the answer
    my wife want really to use the EFIKA too, as she always use my Peg for playing mp3's/movie and playing little games, like the SDL-games from HAK. The problem is, she had seen all the movies/pictures about MOS on the EFIKA.

    Let me just say this carefullly because this is where many people seem to get stuck:

    There
    is
    no
    informational
    politics
    regarding
    MorphOS
    !

    ..this thread alone should give you fairly strong clues about that...

    WiiFit .. henes was just trying to be funny, ofcos MorphOS 2.0 will support the WiiFit, how else can we control that only the correctly registered user is running MorphOS for the Wii (just don't lose/gain any weight, and keep perfect balance, or else)... :P

    I think the delay in the release of MorphOS 2.0 is their having a hard time removing all the extra evil bits from previous 1.666 version.

    Hear Hear!

    I know I'm not the only devvie here, and it's quite obvious who *isn't* a devvie (yes, you), and "although it's been said, many times, many ways..."...

    Constantly whinging about the release almost certainly does more damage than good. If people (other than my boss) whinged at me like this, I'd never get anything doen. Whether out of distraction or spite... ahem! Wouldn't it be better to appear to be in the know by just shutting up? I'm waiting for it too -- I spent almost $1000 of my employer's money on EFIKAs and accessories which are sitting in my office OS-less, shining their little blue lights against the wall like a bunch of bizarre holiday decorations!!

    Happy New Year! :)

    Henes, stop pointing out bugs, we all know it's your fault if MOS 2.0 isn't released yet. Stop chasing bug and leave the users experiencing bug themselves. Much more fun.

    You're not the first one to say this. But so far, none of you explained, what difference a MOS2.0 release would make.

    All (or almost all) apps and hardware you could use with MOS2.0 you can use with MOS1.45 updated with recent ambient/mui/3d/poseidon updates.

    Point is, it's not MOS2.0 what YOU (plural, for all those packed away their machines) want. It's just an excuse.

    You make a good point... lack of software in general is the largest problem...

    For me this is what I feel is missing the most: A good webbrowser, and a better samba release (which won't crash if I try to play a movie from my server).
