LCD Widescreen on MOS

I'm trying to set up my Benq 20" FP202W lcd widescreen on MoS, and I can find most of the data needed from the manufacturer site. But I have no idea where to find info such as "Horizontal(/Vertical) Synchronization"

Also the settings under Horizontal and Vertical timing confuse the crap out of me - synch length, pulse offset, pulse length etc.

Is there anyone here with insight into this kind of stuff who would be willing to help out? Any help is appreciated!

    google found the following values:
    Max Sync Rate (V x H)
    76 Hz x 81 KHz

It's usually better to leave the later values to their defaults. With CRT monitors, they can be used to f.ex. move and scale picture. With LCD screens, however, they don't seem to have much effect at all, except that the picture will usually "just disappear" once you go past certain limit.

I hope that everything went ok. Please tell us if widescreen is working properly, because I wanted to buy a widescreen monitor months ago, but I wasn't sure of it :-)

Thanks :] I will get to work on it a bit later on today, after I learned there wasn't much I could do that would actually damage the lcd screen - so now I'll experiment some more!

Will post here when I have more questions or if I get it to work satisfiably :] But I'm positive it's possible, I saw some screenshots of Amix' desktop the other day and he ran a ws resolution very nicely it seemed.

No luck so far with wide resolutions, but I didn't have that much time to waste on it. I did at least manage to do some screen settings that stopped the screen flickering, although the picture is pushed to the right so a little bit of it is partially off the screen.

What I'm having trouble with now is I guess just finding out where to actually type in the resolutions I want to use, because they keep resetting themselves and not allowing me to use higher than 1200something.

    Any tips?

Erm, try pressing Enter in every field you change the values.

Is there a slider or something "Video Bandwith?" If yes, increase the value.

Sorry i did not use MOS since 1 year, so i'm writing out of my head. But i had an 20' Dell (1680x1050) running in native resolution at my Pegasos II.

No, the fields reset themselves when I press enter. Like if I type in a high res, it resets back to a lower one when I press it.

Also the video bandwidth is set to the maximum of what my monitor can do. So I'm clueless at the moment :(

Do you remember if you used DVI? Some folks keep telling me that vga is crap on lcds. I'm thinking of ordering one of these. But I guess I should get stuff working properly first.

I used VGA first and then DVI i think both on the resolution mentioned above. VGA could have some distortions at higher resolutions.

Did you find your Monitor in the List or did you use some "generic" model?
Maybe make a "new" monitor here?

Yes I did make a custom monitor, I entered the correct specs for it that I found on the official Benq site. (Benq 20" widescreen)

Hi. VGA is not "crap" on lcd - its not AS GOOD as DVI obviously, but looks ok. I have my peg hooked to VGA on my DELL 20' widescreen and my pc on DVI, looks nice.. I actually used one of the CRT monitor definitions in CGX and it works nicely.

Here I use a 22'' Acer LCD widescreen (X222W), and I have no problem
    with morphos in 1680 x 1050 x 24bits resolution !

I have connected the Peg 2 on the vga connector (througha ps/2 kvm
switch) and my pc on the DVI connector.

Even TwinVNC let me control my pc on a separate 1680 x 1050 screen in
order to have no scale to make.

Ahh, how did you two configure the 1680x1050x24 resolution though? I can't for the life of me seem to figure it out.

I just have used a 20'' monitor specification included in Mode Edit in
MorphOS Prefs and after that, I have created some new resolution.

    Nothing more.

If values reset, it's because they go above some limit. Either they
are just plain wrong (tm), or you may have to edit your monitor
    settings.

When you click on ModeEdit in prefs, there's a Monitor Specification
at the top. You may need to edit this since compared to the default,
since you probably have a fairly high spec monitor. I also think it's
hard to damage a flatscreen with a DVI signal, so here's my values for
    a 1600x1200 screen:
    Bandwidth: 200 MHz
    Horizontal Frequency: 30-92 kHz
    Vertical Frequency: 50-92 Hz
I don't think I changed the other values. And I think the bandwidth is
a bit higher than my screen handles actually.. all I wanted was to
make sure I could enter the 'native' resolution, which in this case is
    1600x1200@60Hz.
