The Bounty Projects are doing very well.
But what do MOS needs? Next Major release of MOS and whats more Important apps, apps and apps.
And how we can get those apps? Right we need Coders. So lets hire some good coders Fulltime and pay them!
Now you think great and how we will Pay them???

My answer is with a bounty, in eastern europe an avarage income is something between 200-400 Euro,
and i thought maybe we could get some Users in here to pay monthly 10-30 $ or Euro and when we would get about 200-300 Euro
we could pay 1 or 2 Coders fulltime, and let them work on whatever we want, with more money we would collect the more coders we could pay.
And with some Coders working fulltime on a project we would get more then just Ports of little tools without a gui.
What about a Port of Azureus for MOS a nice Torrent Client with GUI or Mplayer with GUI or something like GAIM???
I would like to Pay 10-30 Euro a month to hire a coder that works fulltime on a project we decide.

What do you think about that idea?

OK, let's assume that there's a project a, and it's estimated, that it would take one coder two months to complete (Let's not name what that project would be, we might end up arguing whether or not the project would take 2 months or longer, and that's not the point)

Anyway, how would it be better if we paid the coder per-month instead of putting that money to the bounty of that project?

With bounties there's guarantee that we will get the software, the coder won't be paid before that. That "problem" might be harder to solve with the "monthly salary" approach. Also, I guess most people like it better to put their money on a certain program(s) they want instead of on a coder, who might be working on multiple projects at the same time.

Also getting monthly income might negatively affect other income a person might be getting. Of course the salary could be "unofficial", but that's gray area we better not enter, if it's easily avoidable.

    With bounties:
-There's guarantee that we will get the software.
-The coder might get more income for the same amount of money paid (in one go instead of monthly payment)
-People donating to bounties have better control of what program they want to pay for.

So becouse of those things I just mentioned, I don't think this would be better than current bounties in ANY way I could think of. Feel free to share your opinions, why it would be better :-)

I think it would be a great idea to set up an option to take on a monthly dontation. It could be paypal and it would just deduct every month until you tell it to stop. If we can get several people involved it would bring a lot of people I think.

Of course a monthly donation, that would be automatically (according to users wishes) be shared between some bounties might work...

Why do you say that? Its been mentioned in the past a lot of us are willing to pay for software. If it becomes a trend I can understand it, but getting support to a good developer is not a bad idea.

    I challenge all of you:

$1000 bounty (or equivalent in your local currency) per person to have the MorphOS Team bring MorphOS1.5 to Genesi's Pegasos3 quad G5 board.

Again, each developer should have a Peg3 at hand, doesn't sound
    feasable.

Say for a month we manage to get thet few hundred bucks together.. what about next month.. and the one after that? Will the developer stop developing if we dont meet the agreed sum of money? What about taxes? And as usual it might have a good start but I am quite sure not all people want to donate 20-30 bucks every month for a year or two. Quality assurance.. several hundred dollars for a gui for example sounds a bit steep.. and what if.. especially if it happens to be crap :)
What if deadlines are not met, should we not pay at all, or pay only 50%.. or 25%?

Too much hassle and questions.. the bounty as we have it now is good enough way to show support. You want something, open up a bounty and see if someone accepts it.

It doesnt work out. If you wish to hire a coder you must provide hardware to him. And if coder has not coded for Amiga before he must learn Amiga API and GUI.

I dont think money is the key. It can help a little but there is only limited number of experienced coders available.

Another problem is that produced work is not guaranteed to be what donator expected.
