We are going to NAB 2005 this weekend and will be showing off a Pegasos II @ the Newtek party and our suite @ the Mirage hotel. We would like a few recommendations though. Instead of also bringing a PC and showing our Video Toaster [4] software on it we will be showing videos of our software in action on MorphOS to promote the Pegasos II.

    1. What icon set should we show?, something that makes MorphOS look awesome, recommends?

    2. What are some of the very best back drops?

    3. What applications should we show. We were thinking Candy Facotry Pro, Fantastic Dreams and Wildfire 7 if they work. Other recommends?

    4. What else should we show off to make MorphOS look sexy?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Candy Factory is just as crashy as on classic amigas. I don't recommend showing it.
Fantastic and Elastic Dreams pretty much work ok.. I had some colour problems though. And it works FAST.
Wildfire 7 works perfectly if you run it in 68k mode.

Use some cool MOS releated Wallpapers from MOS Download Portal! And there are some MOS Icon Themes, when thats not enough try this site with MOS PNG Icons http://amigadev.free.fr/pngicons/

ProStationAudio for audio, even it's not too intuitive it's still an impressing program.

ShowGirls (coupled with Galerius) will beat iPhoto!

AminetRadio and/or Sonplayer (I like the latter one more, but the first's streaming capabilities are said to be pretty good).

Some Hollywood demo might be cool.

Maybe you can get a Betaversion of BurnIt to show..?

GoldEd or MorphEd if someone is interested in a brilliant editor.

For the eye candy factor don't forget to put ZoneXplorer onto the system.

A nice (small) case, mouse and Keyboard. A silent system.

Don't forget to fit your (MUI) applications with nice patterns and colorschemes.

Show the many real time things (changing settings on the fly, opaque move of playing videos), the screen mangement (the fast switching between screens), easy hardware handling (e.g. change of gfx card), scripting (ARexx) and dont't forget to mention the low energy consumption and the nice community.

I know that MorphOS users tend to gravitate towards png icons (duh!), but I was wondering about 256 color icons -- Elena's 'PowerIcons' patch has allowed 3.9 users (like myself) to use 256 color icons (as well as png icons).

Can MorphOS display 256 color icons?

Don't forget ZoneXplorer! The speed and beauty will blow people away!

I would suggest ImageFX, but you have to know what you are doing and be familiar with the program.

    And don't forget Eurp0ria!

    have fun and good luck!

    Hear hear! ;-)

Seriously though, showing PSA, with some plugins active can be very impressive.
E.g. Using the 'timebox' plugin on a pre-recorded vocal, always catches peoples attention in my house. :-D
    -EDIT-
If you do show it, be sure to change the colour of each track(up to 8 different colours) - looks far more impressive than with them all that yucky, orange, default colour.

Another trick with PSA that can look as good as it sounds (or better, if I'm the musician. :-p) is to set some tracks to fade in and out, with the read and write buttons on the mixing desk.
Then when you play it back, the automation kicks in and you get to watch the faders slide up and down as the song plays.
Gives it that 'powered mixing desk' look, which is nice. :-)

And I'm assuming you'll have sound output?

First of all, I don't think you can impress anyone coming from Win/Linux/OSX/Whatever by showing MorphOS programs...

Second of all, I think you should avoid showing programs using old GUIs,... and also do *not* mix different GUIs, like old-Amiga, MUI skinned,... (same goes for the icons: try not to mix KDE, GNOME, GLOWICONS, 3.X,... icons :))

That said, there are some good MorphOS programs you may show but I don't think you should focus on it...

What I would do is concentrate on what's so special about Amiga (MorphOS):

.Show how screens how handled in Amiga and how fast you can switch between them

.Show MUI: skins, send any app to any screen, change settings per app, on the fly,...

.Showing a LiveCD would be a good idea as well... maybe you could also how it's easy to build a livecd by making it in live... (burn your sys: partition and he we are !)

.Some nice MWI demo would be great... Not that you can't do that on other OSs, but nice to watch.

    ...

    Leo.
Nothing hurts a project more than developers not taking the time to let their community know what is going on.

I think some people are losing the focus here.

If you go to a video show people will expect to see some video / 2d / 3D / Audio apps.

Unfortunately, as far as the video is concerned the Pegasos 2 / MorphOS still lack hardware and software support.

Considering that it will be a show for Toaster people, I think it's important to show-off just how helpful a MorphOS powered Pegasos can be. With 1.4.4, they can see that Aladdin4D and other 'classic' 3d rendering software. This is stuff that takes hours on an old 68k, but the old toaster users may prefer their old tried and true software--but faster.

Another thought would be to have Envoy running on a "stock" A4000 and the Pegasos. With a little help from the aminet ARexx host for Envoy, it would be possible to kick-start a Wildfire job on the Pegasos from within the toaster software on the A4000; then, the results could be sent back over the network to the toaster powered 4000. [edit: And that all with the click of a single button within the Toaster software!]

While the above isn't terribly pretty, anyone wanting to *keep* their toaster could still see MorphOS as something positive.
