Current MorphOS / Genesi situation

I'd just like to throw my support behind Genesi and the MorphOS developers (non-core and core). There has been alot of effort made on part of those developers, Genesi, and bplan to bring a modern Amiga-compatible machine to the market. No easy task.

There was bound to be bumps along the road. It is clear that Genesi is doing what it can - based on current market realities - to continue MorphOS. Mr. Buck has made that clear that he will continue with MorphOS - perhaps not as the flagship reason (now), but it is obvious Genesi has to generate revenue. If that revenue is coming from the Linux side of the house - so be it.

Genesi has always been clear that they will support MorphOS and I think all of us users, developers, and dealers should stand behind them.

If there are issues we can offer our support to help get them resolved. Throwing in the towel at the first sign of trouble is not professional.

We have a strong foundation to build on with MorphOS 1.4.x. Supporting Genesi and the MorphOS team is the best thing we can do.

Let's keep the message positive, keep developing our innovative software for MorphOS and keep buying software for MorphOS and showing the system to our friends. Continue to attend and promote shows to show off MorphOS - and the other OS's that run on the Pegasos.

We all want to see MorphOS survive and eventually blossom, so I'd like to start right now by offering my thanks to Genesi, bplan, the core MorphOS developers and the non-core developers who have a vision for the future and are making that vision a reality.

It won't be easy, and not everyone may follow us in our development of MorphOS, but I strongly believe that the concept of the Pegasos and MorphOS is worth fighting for.

    My 2 EURO cents :)

    @ TheToon

    Welcome to morphzone! :-)

Very good post, I agree completely. I want to thank everyone who both has been and is still being part of the MorphOS development. Everyones efforts are and has been much appreciated by so many people. :-)

I hope that we will see a minor update to MorphOS in a near future, with TCP/IP, Altivec, old bugfixes and such things. It seems that a release of MorphOS1.5 was held back by Ambient/MUI development, but now/if the developers behind those applications decides to jump ship and there won't be any more developments there (which sets a new order), then there should be no reason to wait anymore to release an upgrade to the core of the OS, and add a few things like TCP/IP?
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :-)
MorphOS NG will be AROS done right! :-)

I really hope you are right but I'm worried that it will turn out to be far more complex than that.

I'm sure you all read MorphS-news.de, but I decided to insert here some comments by BBRV, which might be worth analysing. They come from that controversial "OS4Emu" thread:

    > > > > > I don't question the legality of this project,
    > > > > > but the whole existence of the MOS project,
    > > > > > especially after reading the Statement from Genesi

    > > > > I think you are going offtopic here!

    > > > no, I'm not off topic, because if MOS goes
    > > > down, OS4emu will too... :-)

    > > MorphOS will NOT go down.
    > > Very assuredly (as in 100% SURE),

    > provided by Luxemburg laws

Actually, we are closing Genesi Sarl, but
that will happen at the end of the year.
We will just operate through Frankfurt
and the USA. No more trolling please

If they want to make such a move, and previously said that MorphOS won't die, it means that it's the best thing to do... Maybe, by closing Genesi Sarl they will cut-off some expenses, and will at last be able to pay the developers...
