We need Pegasos II performance statistics!

Please post links over the weekend on this thread.

Price comparisons are welcome too with other PowerPC or PC CPU platforms.

Don't hesitate to post anything you think might be useful!

    THANKS! We appreciate it!

I'm sorry, but I can't help much here. However, one of the more unique
features of the Peg2 should be the fast Gigabit Ethernet that goes
straight into the fast Marvell NorthBridge. It would be interesting to
see some benchmarks of gigabit network transfer between two Peg2 G4's
directly connected to each other through a twisted cable (no switch).
The data sent should be fetched directly from RAM (to leave the slow
IDE HDD bottlenecks out of the picture) and also stored in RAM on the
    recieving end.

That would be some interesting stats to see IMO! :-)
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :-)
MorphOS NG will be AROS done right! :-)

    PC: 950MHz, 640Meg RAM, Windows2000

    G4 Pegasos: 1Ghz, 256Meg RAM, MorphOS

    Video: DivX AVI (3 alpha).
    -------------------------------------

PC Software used: RealOne, WMP, WinAmpVideo
    MorphOS Software: FroggerNG, MPlayer

    -------------------------------------

    Real life test:
Windows: Horrible choppy ugly video decoding in all three media players. No other applications opened.

MorphOS: Nice Smooth animation and sound. Running Distributed.net software in the background to ensure 100% cpu usage.

    Results: Windows Sucks.
    -------------------------------------------------

Test performed second time, replacing the Peg2/G4 with a Peg-I/G3, 600Mhz, 128M ram. While not running the Distributed.net client, the Peg-1 still provided cleaner video and audio, though not as perfect as the G4/1Ghz.

The previous test is called IRL: In Real Life.

    I need Pegasos II!

Luckily it's being delivered to me after the weekend :-)

One statistics I'd likely find amazing would be power consumption (compred to... well, any PC :-) )

The problem is, currently G4 isn't as much faster as it could be - due to lack of Altivec support. Of course that will need software to support Altivec aswell...

This is a bit old now, but still quite interesting: dnetc-peg2-vec.txt

    Conclusion: Altivec rules in RC5-72.

PS. Oh yes, the client is out already, but MorphOS 1.5 isn't just yet.

Trance statistics are nice, becouse it is fast... But then, it is already pretty amazing on a mere G3 :-)

    RIGHT!

DJBase PegasosForum.de is really a great site. There is a Pegasos headed your way. In the meanwhile, the secret is not getting what you want, it is wanting what you have! :-)

Thanks for the stats so far....we *want* more! :-P

    Stats: 3,200 blocks per day.
3 Days until we pass AmigaOS/PPC.
5 Days until we pass X86/QNX and MIPS/IRIX.

    Of course I don't mind =)

I just made some tests with LAME on my Peg 2 G4 as well.
They are in the same place:

    @Black_Eagle

How about putting some from other computers and see how it compares to:
    1.CyberstormPPC
    2.Celeron, Athlon, bla

and make a table out of it.

Better benchmark would be mixing several videos into one which would show MOS and Linux/Windows gui speed while manipulating lots of windows, icons, doing opaque moving, resizing, while movie plays, etc.

If I have the time, I can make a comparison with my A4000 (060 and 233MHz 604e), and Athlons at 1,466GHz and 1.8GHz (my PC, and my brothers).

I have never used a video manipulating/encoding program on Amiga/Pegasos so that would be harder to fix, but we'll see =)

I would like to see Lucky's take on this topic, since he's put so much
effort into AmiGod2--he would be someone worth asking about various
statistics, their meaning, and how to take that interpretation into
    something meaningful for even novices.

You can't read French ? ;-) I hope we can find a good (and free) translation engine for our website.

Each issue of the magazine Obligement is downloaded around 800 times at our website. It is also available on Aminet so the number of real readers is surely higher.

I posted some results on Amiga.org a bit back from the P96Speed
benchmark, comparing an old A1200 with the G3 Pegasos II...

This could get far more interesting, and less laughable, however,
if somebody could possibly run this benchmark on their G4 Pegasos II,
maybe even a G4 Pegasos I, and another on a "fast" Amithlon rig...by
fast I'm thinking like well above 2 GHz, with a decently specced
    graphics card.

That could be a good comparison basis amongst "amiga" type
systems, at least...and I have a feeling the results could be
rather surprising. I don't know how accurate the table of comparison
is between 68k programs running on Peg/MorphOS and Amithlon is,
though. (Meaning, is Morphos 68k emulation inherently faster
than Amithlon? If they're relatively comparable, this could give
a somewhat accurate idea of the performance disparity (or lack
    of) between different hardware architectures/components.)
