We decided to post this to give some of you more creative thinkers a glimpse of what we are trying to do for and with MorphOS. Please read this news story from yesterday:

    http://www.linuxelectrons.com/article.php/20050910112247645

Now have a look at these pictures:

    http://www.pegasosppc.com/image.php?id=1477

    http://www.pegasosppc.com/image.php?id=1480

The first picture is a room with Genesi, Freescale and ATI people all working and thinking together. In fact, the same Andrew Schmied mentioned in the article above is standing next to Bill in the background. In the second picture, Gerald is discussing MorphOS with David Perkins, one of the top Executives at Freescale.

The Embedded market offers opportunity to MorphOS. That does not mean that we are not interested in a desktop market - every developer needs a desktop! It just means we need to find traction somewhere to pay the bills for the investment we would like to make once again in MorphOS. We are actually getting pretty close...;-)

    BTW, remember this:

It is starting to make sense to Freescale more and more. Why? Because in 2006, 30% of all automobiles sold in the USA will be iPod compatible. iPod sales have passed through the 22 million mark. With Motorola just launching (with Cingular!) an iPod compatible phone, the music player of today will be the MPEG playback/video phone of tomorrow all powered by an Internet backbone. ROKR on! The ROKR is full of Freescale components, but ROKR or bust if iTunes is the only content! Apple will move to something more powerful. Content is the king and if Freescale cannot deliver it they will be out of the game so to speak (see Apple move to Intel). The MobileGT and Freescale will be passe. To deliver content they will need a robust platform and ready access to software and applications. We will help Freescale _and ATI_ do all that. Here is a rough video about the new board from FTF in Orlando.

Hope all the creative minds out there have their thinking caps on and can assist us in making these sorts of initiatives successful.

    R&B :-)

After releasing Radeon 3D drivers and TinyGL it can be clearly seen, that hobby developers follow immediately with almost every feature released by MorphOS Team. I'm sure that things like AltiVec kernel support will be used in applications if only released to the public (especially as it is working for a year at least).

SOunds all great. Im so glad i bought my system a month in a half ago. One big reason I bought it was the hope of a good platform to program software for once again. Its near impossible to make money off programs on the microsoft market as a rogue developer. THose who start early on things like this can make decent money and I really hope it works out -=). Now jsut to get the tiem to code agian lol. On plus ive been sick last three days which gave me the time to really get to know the system and see all the differences from os3.1. I was sursprised to find out jsut how many there were and im sure ill fidn more as time goes on.

Sounds interesting. And if ATI is involved, it probably means 3D acceleration :-)

As a developer it has been nice to see the latest updates, which mean that any potential userbase for any 3D accelerated software has moved to the other side of the scale (from "Users with Voodoo" to "Users with almost any 3D card")

Current projects? ldview (which really has to be renamed...) is making some progress, but it's still a bit too buggy (compared to the latest public release) to release, but most of my efforts currently go to Thurst, which will be a modern multiplayer gravity game.

By all this iPod Hype, don`t forget devices like Sony`s PSP.
This is really a cool device (I have to admit I was allready about to buy one instead of upgrading to the Peg 2, but then I need a good working desktop computer, so I choose the Peg insted the PSP ;) ) and a way to go. Actually since the days of the eclipsis I wait for such a device, and efika seems to be a step in this direction.
And I guess it might have even some advantages over the PSP: While Sony follows a more and more stricter course about what should run on their devices and what not (thinking about FW Updates 1.5 and 2.0) a efika/eclipsis could fill this gap, a full "open handheld" in the tradition of the "open desktop"
With a decent ati mobile chip I guess it might also be possible to be on par with the PSP and if the bplan wizards manage it to get better battery usage hey then this might be a chance.

And yeah MorphOS fits imho very well in such a strategy, but i guess it need a much more solid financial Background, some more development.
To think this further, I read Carl Sassenrath got an ODW recently and Rebol is allready working now on PPC Linux. Well lets assume We will have an "Eclipsis" a PSP like Device, and also lets assume MorphOS is recognized by Carl and will get a Rebol Version. This would make a real nice mobile Internet Control Device. You have a Pegasos based HCT ? Fine control it with your "efika/eclipsis" (assuming such a device will also get a wifi chip, *and* MOS all those neccesary Networking stuff) from everywhere (just needs a hotspot, but that shouldn`t be too problematic in a foreseable future)
Not only control it, but even download your content from the HCT. You want to watch your favorite TV show while you are sitting in the Bus/Train to work? Just put it on your mobile device and have fun.

This beside the gaming experince would have been a reason for me buying a PSP, but then a PSP currently can only do such stuff web based, because as allready mentioned, it is not that easy to bring your own code to run.

Yes, I thing it is about time to bring a "open device"
And a small fast MorphOS could be a key, as it may imho be better then Linux due some conceptional differences.
