I wonder what could be done about copy protection on this machine? :)

I can not say much, but just my impressions about the game market.

Usually the best games come from the Japanese companies. They manage to do almost cinematic experiences for any game console (not PCs). But MorphOS lacks of a decent japanese support, so it may be very difficult to rise interest amongst japanese developers.

I think everything is about games. Microsoft tried to buy rights on Final Fantasy for a XBox version of the game, but it was cancelled when Sony acquired an amount of Squaresoft capital...

The Xbox is just a PC, as the Amiga CD32 was just an A1200 (although I bought both ... ^^;), but Microsoft has so much money that they can survive trying to release good games, paying money to important game companies, also here in Japan.

So, for me, everything is about games. I bought a damn Wonder Swan Color instead of a Game Boy because Final Fantasy I,II and IV was available for Wonder Swan.

So, which titles will be available for this console? Birdie Shoot? Software Tycoon? Even if they are good (I don't know, since I don't play them), who will know?

As Bill Gates knows, most of the part is marketing. Fortunately, game consoles are something more, so there is always some light... And XBox won't stay just with marketing.

one thing I'd like to have is possibility to run "own software" on it, not just "official games"

I'm not talking about piracy here, but ability to just compile program/game, and be able to run it on console directly.

That would solve the "emulator problem" as people could use unofficial ones (scummvm, mame, snes9x etc.) but then it might be harder to prevent people from copying commercial software...

Of course you can get emulators, avi players etc. for Playstation2 and Xbox at least, but users will need to install mod chip before it's really possible (which will also enable users to play copied commercial games)

Reading through the thread, 2 options seems to be revolutionary enough to catch ppl'sinterest.

1., A portable games console with a TV glass (those which virtually "project" a TV screen ahead of you, but only for your half eye, and you can still see what goes around you, so you can walk, travel, etc.

2., AFAIR there was still no game console coming bundled with a VR headset. This approach however requires at least 1 ground breaking game title to be developed for the device, which costs plenty of money.

    @warface

The VirtualBoy didn't do too well. And the JaguarVR never was released due to cost. And that cost has not gone down much since then (as found out by the folk trying to make a few VR headsets to resell)

I've always wondered, if anyone has created "virtual reality version" of classic "The Sentinel"...

I mean, that game would be perfect for such system, as player doesn't move at all (But instead teleport)

But then again, it's more like a cult game than mainstream...

    But still would be cool!

As I said before... before thinking of a "game maschine" and some nonexisting customers for this kind... there should be more sold Pegasos with much more software and a far better organization, than it exists now! -> f.e. every new programmer who is really good in coding is upset because of some misswords/-actions of some Genisis people. There still is no TCP/IP, which is really needed, the Pegasos is for now far outdated...etc.

Actually, you are talking about MorphOS here, not Pegasos.

Then why do you mention a TCP/IP stack? I surf the net using Linux's built-in TCP/IP stack on the Pegasos already.

As for technology-base, the Pegasos is not far behind the Mac and in some areas the Pegasos is ahead. same speed USB, previous-gen Firewire tied to a better backbone resulting in better transfer times, ECC support in the Pegasos enabling more robust memory capability, same speed ATA support.

People are now going for digital camera. What about adding port to directly review the pictures on the TV trough the console?
The game number one of sales last Crhistmas is karaoke unit. This can also be easily added :)
Last Idea, add a HD to record in real time the TV.
This will be a complete unit, instead of having a stereo, game console, DVD and a computer ......
