    Hi!

    What do you think about LinuxPPC apps on MorphOS? I mean ability to run LinuxPPC apps natively in MorphOS. I know it will be very hard to make such "thing", but there are some "killer" apps like Firefox, OpenOffice etc. which would be HUGE reward fot the effort. It's just my dream now. MorphOS is great OS and this new feature would be very very very nice and could help MorphOS to become famous and competitive.

    It is not possible. AmigaOS API being designed for single address space the implementation is impossible.

    In practise it could be done by implementing "LinuxBox" (compared to ABox for AmigaOS programs) but since Ambient, MUI and drivers run in the ABox context it is not even remotely possible (and probably remains so the next 10+ years)...

    Thanks Itix for the expert answer, even if I don't want to hear that it's not possible. Ok, it's sad true...

    But you can have some nice Linux portings such as mPlayer and Image Magick.

    If all support libraries will be ported and/or wrapped into Amiga Libraries (such as porting of KDE wrapped into MUI) then you could see easily into MorphOS also portings of Linux programs which present graphical GUIs.

    How about moving drivers,... outside ABox (QBox ?) ?

    Wasn't the original goal to use QBox as the main Box and only use ABox for emulation/backward compatibility ?

    Amiga compatibility provided by Abox is more than enough. Why keep working on ABox when we know all the limitations it implies (single adress space you just mentionned, no memory protection,...) ?

    I'm not whining, just asking.

    Leo.
    Nothing hurts a project more than developers not taking the time to let their community know what is going on.

    @Raf_MegaByte

    Porting is indeed lot easier: it is always easier bend source code than binary. Main obstacle is GUI libraries... GTK-MUI will help there in the future.

    @Leo

    Too much work and not enough time.
