In our 'for what its worth' department
I have been using Betascan all night now to scan in pics of my family.
Betascan works just like on my old Amiga 3000T only faster
I'm using an ancient Mustek MFC6000CX three pass scanner through a
Symbios 50pin SCSI card in PCI slot 1 on my April2 PegI. I notice in
task manager that symbios.device skyrockets to 100percent when
accessing the scanner and it makes the mouse freeze/jump for several
seconds at a time when scanning. But, unlike the recalcitrant PeeCee
and Mac boxes, at least the Pegasos actually seems capable of sucking
in pictures from a scanner and putting them into the digital realm.
Will future versions of this SCSI driver be a little less prone to
take over the system? I thought SCSI was all about DMA and low CPU
overhead, but maybe its a PegI thing or ?? Minor gripe, but
noticeable.
Overall though, I have to say I am very happy with this aspect of my
Pegasos. No other computer in the house will drive this scanner
properly, from Mac OS to Windows 2000 to Linux. There's just no
substitute for the little free program, Betascan. Its a big part of
the reason I use MOS. A remminder of what Amiga once was and what MOS
can be
