    Hi!

Look at the MorphOS Screens on this Page:

    http://amiga.emugaming.com/morphos.html

There's a Quake3 Icon in the top left corner!
Does that mean, that Q3 is ported to Morphos?

    I read something in a Linux/ppc Board:

    Klick here!

    What do you mean?

The Q3 sources are floating around the web so they wouldn't be impossible to obtain. Of course this would be highly illegal and anyone who tries to port it might get into real serious trouble, even if (s)he doesn't release the sourcecode.

The quake3 engine (just the engine, not the game sources) cost about 20.000EUR the last time I checked.
John Carmack has ported all of ID's games since Doom to Linux so hopefully he likes the idea of alternative platforms (but then again, why was there no port to linux ppc?).

Perhaps Genesi could approach them and get the sources under an NDA (loki managed to). But first I think they should focus on producing 3D drivers for some of the more modern Radeon, etc cards.
Hopefully SciTech can provide good 3D-drivers now that they've made a deal with ATI to handle drivers for all OS's except windows through SNAP embedded (iirc).
Anyway, this is still just on the horizon so I wouldn't crack open that champagne bottle just yet.

Quake3 would be great for playing Team Fortress.
Nearly all people in Europe moved from Quake World TF to Q3 TF.

Sorry, but this icone is just the OCINEL icone collection. It's just icones, and not programmes.

But,it seems to be easly to do this port on an illegal way.

It would also send out a message to software developers "beware, if you do not port your application we will steal your sourcecode and do it ourselves". Are you sure that is what you want?

I think Genesi is doing a good job of getting software for the platform. We really should wait for the 3D drivers to improve/mature and then see what happens on the game-front instead of trying to push something ahead that is already moving at a good pace.

At the time being MorphOS might not be the best platform for modern 3D games and getting more applications is probably more important at this stage anyway. A platform which works great for games but has few applications is not that appealing because then people could just go out and buy a (cheaper) game console anyway. I'm certain that Genesi has a plan where they have set up goals and in which order they should be achieved to benefit the platform the most. They know that people want (3D) games and I'm sure that issue will be addressed as soon as they find that it would benefit the platform the most.
There was a recent thread on the beta2 mailinglist where some people claimed that noone would buy the platform if there were no (modern) games available for it. Well, I neither play games or owned an amiga and I bought one so I don't think that argument holds.

Finally, this is not a mail to attack anyone who wants Q3 on MorphOS, believe me, I would love to have it as well. This is just my view on the current situation.

You are right. We need programms, games will comes later.

BTW Quake3 icon was included in MorphOS instalation CD. We can play only Q1 and Q2. I use Q3 icon for Alien Breed 3D II. :o)))

Another way that could be tried, is to donate computers to programmers
of populare software/games if they agree on making a MOS port of it.

I know there has been some promises about this, we had one who was
prepared to port a decent webbrowser for MOS, but what a delay in
delivering the machine, not really sure if it ever got delivered or
    not.

He is very interested in porting Atlantis.
But there weren't any Pegasos available anymore, that's why he didn't
receive one and couldn't start working on it, yet.

Wishmaster speaks the truth. There were a limited number of PegI boards. They got some to developers, but they had to sell some and provide some to internal people. A lot of people needed/wanted/required a Pegasos, and there was a very limited number.

This is changing/has changed now! :-D
