MorphOS 2.0 Software Compatibility Project

With the advent of MorphOS 2.0, it is time to get a compatibility FAQ up in the "Quick Help" section. I've got my system up and running, no software added (save for AmIRC naturally)-but that will be corrected very shortly.

As for now, we'll leave out the stuff requiring UAE, but I would really like to get a little list going. Everyone should know by now that if there is software with a setting that needs to be adjusted for MorphOS 2.0--the question will get asked hundreds of times.

    Here is the start:

    AmIRC
    Status: Working
Issues: Needs an AmigaOS original RexxMast.
New users must find a way to register.

RexxMast isn't needed at all. What you optionally need is the original amigaos rexxsyslib.library, but it's only needed for scripts, and native (incomplete) implementation is enough to use amirc.

    Status: Working
Issues: No possibility to paste text (i.e. links)
Download and install "Powersnap" from aminet (yes this tool is from 1994 and still working with MOS2.0)

Is this list just for legacy programms causing trouble or in general for all working legacy apps?

As Jobb0 said. However, I would not be opposed to having a "MorphOS 2.0 Native Application List." ;-) The goal here is to get a list of working applications. We don't need to know if "Mail Order Monsters" works on MorphOS 2.0, but knowing if a C=64 emulator is functional or not (where the game runs) would be benefitial.

(off topic: Datel's Max Media Dock for the Nintendo DS works with MorphOS 2.0 as a usb compact flash card reader, out of the box.)

    Cego,

about wookiechat, it's just your betterstring.mcc being broken. Use an older one and it will work.

    Targhan,

"Issues: MorphOS 2.0 MUI Lists can cause bad images." ?? What do you mean? Just works here.

    Hello,

This kind of thread were started many times on many different site.

    This is quite unprodutive.

Would it be possible to have mz plugin to track application working or not ?

It would be easier to use than a forum to keep track of w/not w application. This plug in would have a link to archive if available for download.

TVPaint works like a charm on Efika. Damn good software!

Well the idea is to collect the information from the forums, and then to compile it into a FAQ. If it's part of the FAQ then it would be on-site. I've toyed with the idea of a text file for downloading, but that would be bit redundant as anyone could copy and paste from the FAQ pages (Quick Help tab at the top of MZ).

I've had SGrab only fetch the highlighted items out of a window with that list. It is, well strange.

I'm glad that someone mentioned betterstring, as I recall that gave MorphOS1.x fits, and even my old ami had trouble with that mcc...... It's good to keep this in mind as I'm installing YAM relatively soon.

    @magnetic: link?

BTW: I'll take that forum into account, and this topic is way off center ;-) Seriously, I need at least a few more items before I can start a list.

Also (for all): How do you want the list divided up? Internet Apps, Utilities, etc -- or alphabetical?

Years ago I compiled this list for MorphOS 1.0.

But in my opinion list of working software is not very interesting. For example I have listed applications like StrICQ and MCP. Who really cares if they still work in 2008? Or ancient KingCON? Or AmigaWriter? Or...

It is probably better compile list of noteworthy applications or recommendations of good old software. It could be MorphOS native or 68k native. No need to mention every piece of crap ever written...

I care about AmigaWriter :) It's still good for word processing. Most major commercial 68k softwares should be included as in many cases there aren't MorphOS native equivalents. No matter how old they might be, but that's what we have. And in most cases they are good enough for their purpose still.

I've got AmigaWriter 2.0 registered and although I think it's a good w.p. I think it's no that good to print text. Printing is slow and quality is not so good. I'm still dreaming Haage & Partner upgrade it....

I agree. Not necessarily about Amiga Writer, but the scope should be limited somewhat. No need to include a 1996 nes emulator that was optimized for an '060. ;-)

Hmm.. I use version 2.20 and it prints fast on my network printer (laser). Quality on text is as good as on any other program too.. haven't tried gfx printing with this setup yet.

    @ jPV:
Could it be a problem concerning the 2.0 version?
I repeat: Amiga Writer is a very good program that I still use (used... Where is my Peg?!?...) but printing is not so smart... When I will be able to do I'll check the 2.2 version and why not? I will upgrade!

After breezing through the other thread, maybe we should concentrate this thread on how best to organize that information? I'll see about getting a sample up there as soon as I can.

you got it. that looks awesome. I'm sure that could be used for a while anyway. (we got some plans to do an overhaul at some point, so anything done now may not survive *artistically*). But, IMHO it would be great on whatever we do in the short term.
