Please help me because I am afraid for my MorphOs filesystem. The problem is when I start to download files bigger then 2Gb, then OWB download window shows 1.9Gb. This is also problem with BeeHive or CTorrent. This programs create 1.9Gb file on disk before download starts (filesize 2.7Gb). Is this can broke my partition/filesystem? (I stop both downloads). PS: I try to download on FAT32 USB drive but same problem again.
Fat32 filesystem nor smartfilesystem are able to handle files bigger than 2 gb. If you try to copy on them files bigger than 2 gb, isos dvd linux for example, the file will be truncated at 1,9 gb approximately. To may copy very big files, larger than 2 gb, you have to use ext2filesystem or icefilesystem. Those will be able to handle big files over 2 gb.
Max filesize for FAT32 is 4GB (100% sure). Also I think that is 4Gb is max filesize for SFS (not 100% sure). Because of this is very strange that MorphOs cut files to 1.9Gb, even on FAT32 which can hold 4Gb files.
There is also something strange in the filesize in OWB (but it is also possible that it is a problem of MlDonkey). If I compare the filesize in MLDonkey and in my filemanager there is always a difference (in MlDonkey: 1480474624, in Ambient 1021.7 MB) Anybody a clue?
> what is generally understood as 1MB is actually 1024KB or > 1048xxx bytes....
Yes, while in a correct sense 1 MB = 10^6 bytes, whereas 1024 KiB = 1 MiB = 2^20 bytes. And 1024 kB = 10^3*2^10 bytes = 1,024,000 bytes. That amounts to a 5% difference in the mega range while tom's difference is a 45% one. Even the yotta range would only produce a 21% difference.
MorphOS is currently no Bittorrent client that can download files larger than 2GB. It is probably able to compile MLDonkey to fetch larger files. A good system for storing large files is ext2 filesytem. I managed to save files larger than 4GB on an ext2 partition using FryingPan and OWB too.
Yes, I had the same idea, the difference is to big. I didn't have this difference in older versions of MlDonkey. I compared OWB with IBrowse, but IBrowse gave the same difference, so I guess it is not something in OWB. Then there are 2 possibilities: 1. There is something wrong in MlDonkey 2. or in Morphos. For me it is not a big problem, but it is still interesting. Where does it go wrong?
Yes, I also try with IBrowse and download filesize is unkown in my case. I think this is Ok for IB. Now really I don't know where is problem, in OWB/Torrent or MorphOs/Filesistem and files bigger than 2 Gb.
Well, the problem is alo existing for files even smaller than 1 GB and using MlDonkey for MlDonkey url-files (not torrent-files) So perhaps there's something wrong in the file-system management?
