I'm not sure I entirely understood what it is you want .. AFAICT you want direct read&write support on RW media ..
Correct.

but do you want the writing to specifically be in UDF format, or any fileformat of choice?
Mainly I need to exchange data on existing media, and it is all UDF format.
I have many CD RW with data on it, and now I need to put some into my Pegasos.
These media (mainly CD RWs) exist for the fact I exchange data thru my many PCs since the times I have not a Lan into my houseplace.
And also actually only two of them are Lan equipped, a laptop and an Athlon, and now also Pegasos.
But it is not in a room suitable to place a cable.
Pentium 200, Celeron 500 and 486-DX2-66 are not Lan equipped and all slots are occupied.
My A1200 has no expansion cards and is not inserted into a case, so I have even no CD connected to it.
I have bought also a Lan card for my Amiga 4000 3 months ago, but I have still not installed it, because I deal actually only on how to manage MorphOS, some things I don't understand of XP (what a messy OS) and I had big troubles with Athlon (I must had changed motherboard) So all my attentions were diverted from A4000.
Regarding other kinds of media, it is not necessary to get support for other filesystems, because when using USB memory keys, the support for Fat-Win95 filesystem is almost good.
Actually it is only UDF we lack of, I think (IMHO) to get another compatibility issue.

Do you want it to be compatible with Windows? And do you want reading to be compatible with Windows?
If I could exchange data with Windows, so it seems me almost good.
If I could also pick some CD RW and port data to and from two different pegasi, or from and to a Pegasos and an A4000 with standard OS it is almost good too and more satisfying.
2 CD RW store some more data than a 1 GB usb card, and you have to buy another expensive 256Mb/512Mb/1 GB USB key card if you want to transfer more data... while virgin CD and CD RW are cheap and sold there in Italy even in tobacco stores or at newspapers'seller kiosks.
