...BAM! New Feature in the Works!

Firstly, I would like to apologize to everyone for my absence over the last couple of days -- The summer flu can be a pain. I did make some changes to the pathing on MorphZone, in hopes that if we ever have to have some server changes again the downtime will be reduced.

With that out of the way, I'm working towards expanding the International House of Chatter in a whole new direction. I've been testing what to do with the newest form of the "MorePosts" modules, and have come up with a plan....

First, note the changes on the MorePosts page. Notice that German and Greek forums have been broken out into their own little list? Right. Step one ;-) Day by day, I fully intend to do this to each and every language on MorphZone.

After this, I would really like all of my international moderators to step up, stand forward, and prepare for the next phase... I will be creating a module specific to each nationality, with at least a minimal of MorphOS/Pegasos information for users of that language, a few very important links for that language (f.ex. the German version of MorphOS-News.de), and the last 5 or 10 topics in the language of that welcome page.

This will be a rather large undertaking, and I will definately need the intl mods to help out. The support recieved will directly impact how long it will take to impliment, but I will certainly have the individual listings finished by this time next week.

Thanks in advance to all the moderators (intl) that are willing to jump in head first! Also, I would like to thank all current and past moderators, assistant admins, contributors, and users - you are the ones who make this site special!

    Regards,
    Targhan

Targhan, count me in as an italian moderator, and let me know what I have to do. Didn't have much work lately, but at times the italian forums are quite busy, and will hopefully return in good shape soon!

    Kind regards,
    Andrea

Great news, Targhan! Just let me know once you know in detail how I could lend a helping hand for the german part.

    By the way:

(f.ex. the German version of MorphOS-News.de)

Please excuse the surreptitious advertising (being an editor I'm biased of course), but I'd suggest to also include amiga-news.de here.

While I do admit that MorphOS-News.de's separate "new software" listing is sometimes quicker up-to-date than a corresponding news-item appearing at us, in general IMHO we do report more often about MorphOS, especially if we just look at german news-items (currently, for example, our latest MorphOS-related news-items are from yesterday* (english/german) vs. July 27 (engl.) and even July 16 (german)).

[*=not counting today's Aminet software news, of course, since this would correspond to MorphOS-News.de's "new software" listing]

    Thanks guys!

First thing is first, a format for the pages should be determined; then, we need to collect up some useful URL's for each language. After this, we need to see what we already have here for each language. Like the italian keymap from the doc.

( @Senex: of coz we'll have a link to amiga-news.de on the german pages, thats why I wanted a discussion about it. This is exactly the kind of thing that needs a round-table discussion, because I think of amiga-news.de/en ;-) )

@tmhg thanks! there is room in this topic for input for everyone.

I think that in the end I would like a nice short "Welcome to MorphZone" opening for those pages, one that would be easy for everyone to translate into the language(s) supported. Since languages work differently, there should be some artistic freedom, as long as the message is the same. ;-)

Sorry, Targhan, had somehow forgotten this thread. :-/

What exactly do you have on mind here?

Maybe (if technically possible easily, I don't know RunCMS) it would be sufficient to keep in each of the national forums one thread (for such a welcome message you were thinking about) sticky on top in the "Top 5" listings?

Okay, here a start suggestion for Germans - news-sites in alphabetical order. ;-)

Nachrichten & Foren: [News & Forums]

    amiga-news.de
    MophOS-News.de
    Pegasosforum

    Hilfestellungen: [Help]

    Installationshilfe

    [Install-Guide also in Czech, English, French, Hungarian, Italiano, Polish, Russian, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish;
BootCD-Guide also in English, French, Italiano and Russian; both hosted at MorphOS-News.de.]

    Geschichtliches: [History]

    Geschichte des Pegasos

[There are also english and french versions on pegasosppc.de.]

Don't know about any german-specific stuff like this - maybe someone else?

In case nobody pre-formulated something yet, maybe you could give us a few keywords as a skeleton for such a welcome message?

Btw: Is RunCMS flexible enough to give the national moderators editing access to those texts on MorphZone which are in their respective native language?

For example I'd like to change then or otherwise ask you to change the two text blocks below:

    Quote:

    Latest Deutsche
    5 Deutsche Foren

    into:

    Aktuelle deutsche Diskussionen
    Letzte 5 Themen

    and:

    Quote:

    Deutsche Foren
Internationales Forum für die deutsch-sprechende MorphOS/PEGASOS-Anwenderschar

( International Forum for the German speaking Community of MorphOS/Pegasos users. )

    into:

    Deutsches Forum

(Forum for the German speaking MorphOS and Pegasos users)

PS: Totally unrelated - but couldn't the size of the news headlines be reduced a bit? At least with Firefox the letters are way to big, IMHO.

Targhan, this is great and it is also great that so many of you are helping out. Cool! The International House of Chatter is one of the best features of this site. 8-)

Thanks BBRV, I agree about the International House of Chatter. I would also like to bring back the "instant translation button" too. This is just the next step towards total world domination being able to reach accross cultural divides.

All your languages belong to us!

     :-)

-->Senex, I'll get you a reply off in just a little bit, since I need to digest everything :-P

    @Targhan

Might be overkill, but just in case you'd be planning to offer translated bounty descriptions optionally, too:

I've just translated the ezPM bounty description into German for our corresponding news-item at amiga-news.de about Rupert's status update.

So in case you can make use of it, feel free to add the part below to the bounty description here at MorphZone:

"Work:")

Aminet)
Client:
Deinstallation eines Paketes

Integritätsüberprüfung des Verzeichnisses 'MOSSYS:' und Angabe etwaiger Abweichungen

Zeitschaltfunktion für automatischen Start des Clients
