    Hello,

i have open a group named "MorphOS Software Development" on Facebook.

For the moment the group is private.

If you are a developper don't hesitate to join the group ;-)

Do any smart people really still use Facebook any more???

I'm not that smart, but smart enough to avoid Facebook like the plague. Isn't there another website similar to Facebook, but without its flaws that you could have established this group on instead of Facebook?

I got blocked from Facebook recently.. had an account with fake name there and maybe someone reported about it or something, but they started to request too much proof to be acceptable to continue using it. First they asked for SMS verification.. and I went and did that with my secondary pre-paid phone number, but then they requested a photo of my face, which they apparently check manually because they told it'd take some days, and that's certainly too much to accept. So, good bye the little I used it.

Lucky you. In my case, they requested a scan of my passport (!).

Unfortunately for me, I needed Facebook access for a work project. That said, after the tenth time I was asked to submit the same scan of my passport, I had to give up on it since it usually took between 24 and 48 hours before the request was even processed and there were not even email notifications.

Easily the worst run online service I have ever had to deal with.

Well, as you can see from many responses in this thread, many users and probably also many programmers/developers, will not ever consider using Facebook, due to the sites excessive demands for private information. Why would you want to use such a site, knowing that they collect so much info from its users, and not knowing who will eventually end up getting your info?

Again, I would suggest that you reconsider your group location, and find a different site, or even this forum, to use as a place for MorphOS developers/programmers to gather and discuss programming projects.

I am not a member of FB, and never will be in the future. I do not trust such internet groups.

@AmigaDave : personnally FB don't ask me confirmation of my identity (passport, identity card, etc...)

"Yannick Papiosaur Bcy" is not my real name.

The creation of this group is easy on FB and each members can invite others developers.

I think in next week, months, the numbers of developers in "this" group will go up.

Yesterday : creation of the group : 11 members
    Today : 19 members

For the moment, i keep this solution because is attractive for developers don't knows MorphOS

Maybe, it's a stupid idea. The future will say us.

If you have a better solution, don't hesitate to propose it.

Yeah, you can't deny the fact that FB is still probably the most important platform to spread news and get audience. Think about user groups, bands, etc. So it's not a stupid idea.

It's just shame how other aspects and user privacy are handled there. They go far off regarding that... and too bad no other social media platform has grown even close to it :/

This is it. For catching "outside" ppl FB is probably a good place. But the actuall beef is better handled over here.
