Ok, since the sungem device does not work on my old 3.1 Powermac I decided to use mmy MOS-Box offline for all kind of different stuff.

Now a friend came and gave me a Realtek 8139D NIC for free, so I changed my mind ;-)

Opened the Mac, put the card in, booted MOS ! Card was found (installed as eth1), disabled the eth0 sungem device, rebooted and ..... NOTHING !

As I said, card was found, tried DHCP and static IP, cannot ping the router in any way :-x

Card was tested in a PC and cables are the same as on my AOne so also working.

    What can I do ???

The PowerMac ARAIK is using a different non sungem network chipset, which is not and probably will never supported by MorphOS.

You need a RTL8139 card in such case. A new interface should appear in network settings for that specific card, which needs to be enabled and unlike it is broken or some non working revision it should do its job out of the box.

    As I stated above, I just built in a Realtek 8139D :-)

It´s been recognized as eth1, leds are on after putting in the cable but I cannot connect to the router ...

    Hi Fred,

it could be that DHCP is failing for some reason.
You could try to set a static IP address - detailed instructions here (although substitute eth1 for eth0 in your case).

EDIT: Just re-read your first post - guess you tried static IP also. One user reported that manually setting the MAC address in the 'expert' settings helped with the 8139D - maybe worth a try.

Tried that to no avail :-(

Did some further investigations : changed PCI slot, different cables ... NONE

I also noticed : I cannot even ping myself with the static IP I have given ...

So ... is that NIC incompatible ?? Even if it's recognized by MorphOS ?

I have also a PowerMac 3.1. I bought a 5 dollars RTL8139C and it works flawlessly. To the best of my knowledge, the same goes for the D version.I am sure someone here, more advanced than me will help you get rid of your problem :)

It sounds bizarre and random, but you may want to try testing with another hard-drive.

Check out this thread for the symptoms that noob experienced wrt networking, which turned out to be due to a defective HDD.

    Hmmm, no joy :-(

I got myself a 8139C now from ebay, so I'll give it a try later these days ...

BTW. could I also use a Netgear MA311 Wireless Lan Card ??? Was built into my AOne, are there drivers ?

There is a small chance that it will be supporteed with MorphOS 3.2.

I am using one in my Pegasos2 right now.
