Morph OS 2.7 won't install on my Mac mini?

    Hello,

I work as an Apple Macintosh System Administrator since 1996 and from 1990 to 1998/99 I also used different AMIGAs. :)

Yesterday I've downloaded the "morphos-2.7.iso" and burned it in two ways - I used the Harddisk Utility of Mac OS X 10.5.8 Leopard, which is part of the OS for CD1 and I also used Toast Titanium 11 for CD2 (Toast is something like "Nero" for Windows Computers).

If I try to start from the CDs it doesn't work - it tries to load and after some seconds the Mac mini ejects the CD … :(

Hold the "C"-key at start to boot from CD doesn't work, hold the "alt"-key to get into the bootmenu doesn't show the CD (to select and boot from it) and also inside Mac OS X you can't choose within the System Preferences the CD as a start volume (it doesn't show up there).

Bit in the Finder/Desktop of Mac OS X the CD is visible and all looks fine!

    Any ideas?

Maybe the CD-drive is defect? So I should use an external CD-drive over Firewire?

My Mac mini is a 1.42 GHz G4 one with a 32 MB Radeon 9200, 1.024 MB of RAM and a 80 GB HD.

As far as I understand the manual of Morph OS correct, this should work without any problem?

    Many thanks for help! :)

    Hi

My bet is - broken CD on your mac mini. Do you burn it at the same computer? Meaby try with the other one. On the other hand you can try to boot and install via USB but i'm totally lame at it - look for a solution in other topics.

    Good luck and welcome :)

    Hi,

I've burned the CDs on my MacBook Pro (because it's faster), but maybe I should burn directly on the Mac mini.

I know how to build a bootable stick (build my own with 10.7 Lion for example), so I'll try this too. Good idea! :)

Yeah, try with the mini, then you will see definitely if the cd drive is still ok. Booting MorphOS from usb might be a little bit more tricky but try :)

You should try to burn the Iso with Linux, because Mac Os X does not create bootable cds for any reason.

That's not correct, I burned hundreds of bootable CDs and DVDs with Mac OS X 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, 10.5 and so on and the systems were Mac OS X (of course … ;) but also a lot of different Linux Systems and different BSDs.

All were bootable without any problem.

Is the ISO downloaded correctly? Correct size and md5sum matches? Can you see any other bootable CD (Linux/OSX) in the alt-menu which would confirm if the drive works? And I don't know if it's today's burning software or what's the reason, but many people seem to fail to burn ISO directly to the CD instead of burning the mounted contents of the ISO, which of course wouldn't work...

Anyway, your mini should boot just fine into MorphOS from the CD with c key pressed or from alt-menu if CD and drive work. You could also press the refresh button on alt-menu, if CD was slow to spin up.

Burn the ISO with Nero from some PC, I did it and I installed MorphOS 2.7 in my MacMini without problems.

Any burning software accepting ISO files will do. I've burned numerous MorphOS CDs with MacOS X Leopard Disk Utility and they worked on 1.42 GHz Mac mini (and also on PowerBook and old PowerMac Gigabit Ethernet) without any problems. I've also used ISO burning feature built into Windows 7, again without any problems.
