    Hi,
I'll receive in these days a card Catweasel MK3 PCI/Flipper, this one:
    http://www.jschoenfeld.com/products/cwmk3_e.htm

I'm interested to use this card only to READ and WRITE floppy Amiga 3,5" of 880Kb AmigaDOS and NDOS Amiga (write for exemple from .DMS and .ADF floppy Amiga image, and read from an original Amiga disk 880kb AmigaDOS and NDOS)

    Can I use my Pegasos2 G4@1000 in MorphOS 2.5 ? or I need to use it in AmigaOS4.1.2 ?
If possibile with MorphOS 2.5, Can you tell me exactly what Do I need to make and which driver, device I need ?

I have seen only these informations at the moment ...
    https://morph.zone/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?topic_id=4389&forum=11#40864

    Thanks for the support
    Regards

With MorphOS2.x support soon to be released (edit: according to rumors) for the G4 PowerMac, I am also interested in finding out how useful installing my Cat Weasel MK3 Flipper card could be. It would be great to be able to read and write Amiga 880kb Floppies from my G4 PowerMac running MorphOS2.x.

Using an Amiga keyboard would also be preferable to using the McAlly iKey keyboard I have hooked up to the G4 PowerMac now.

From the thread you linked to it seems that some people have had success and others have not. As soon as G4 PowerMac support is available I am going to give it a try and see if the Cat Weasel MK3 works any better, or worse installed in the Mac instead of what it reported when used in a Pegasos computer.

Catweasel Mk.3 comes with a driver disk with multidisk.device. It's meant for Amithlon but does work on MOS. A little buggy, but usable.

You would be advised to use XFS on Aminet rather than FFS in MorphOS for reading FFS floppies - it's obviously not been that well tested and will crash a lot of the time when you mount. That means you won't be able to format, but it can read and write okay.

You can also use the keyboard but be aware you'll have to edit your S:User-Startup to add a command to activate it (I think its on Aminet). If you want to use a joystick, you'll have to replace the MOS lowlevel.device with the catweasel one.

Lastly, OS4 doesn't have any support for the Mk.3 - it has a tool, ported from Linux, that lets you read images from a Catweasel MK.4. NOT the Mk.3. That isn't really "using" the Catweasel, unless you're interested in archiving your floppy collection for use on UAE.

I also have taken a PowerMac FW800 dual G4@1420 and I'd like to use the MK3 here, when relased MorphOS 2.6 :-)

    @KennyR
thanks a lot; I need sometime to read and write to AmigaDos 880kb floppies, and so I need to use XFS and multidisk.device to mount them (right ?)

I also need to write from .ADF and .DMS images to Amiga floppies.
I also need to read from Amiga floppies (AmigaDos and NDOS) to archive them in .ADF and .DMS
Can I to make these things ? (if yes, What Do I need ?)

    thanks

I think you need to ask some of the people using a Catweasel MK3 from the other thread. I think at least a couple of them are having some good success in using their CW-MK3 for reading and writing to floppy disks.

I had a CW MK3 in my Pegasos2 but I removed it some months ago because it simply doesn't work properly.

    Format never worked.
Reading worked for Amiga disks but "rarely" for PC disks.
Writing worked "sometimes" with random locks on floppy (reboot required).

I really wasn't happy with this card. Then, I just use my good old A4k for floppy disk management now.

I wonder if anyone is having better luck with the other Catweasel models, instead of the MK3?

Btw, it is not a hardware problem, but a driver support under MorphOS. And I'm afraid that this new hardware will not have a better support.

I'll try ... so tell me, which is the right hardware (about driver) to use Catweasel MK3 ?

    - Windows XP, slot PCI ?
    - OSX 10.5x or 10.4.x powerpc, slot PCI ?
    - Linux powerpc or x86, slot PCI ?
    - MoprhOS2.5, slot PCI ?
    - AmigaOS4.1.2, slot PCI ?
    - Amiga 4000 OS3.9 or OS3.1, slot Zorro ?
    - Amithlon x86 OS3.9, slot PCI ?
    - other ?

(I have all these configs to use the Catweasel MK3, but I'd like MorphOS2.x in Pegasos2 G4 or PowerMac G4)

    thanks a lot
    regards

I wasn't able to test the CW MK3 on anything else than my Pegasos2, but I guess that the best support is for Windows XP or Linux x86.

Interesting project. I may want one of those as well, but I already have 3 or 4 Catweasel cards (all different models). I would like to get the most use from them if possible.

installed in Windows XP, It' s OK (all perfect) ... read, write, format ... :-) (while many problem in OS Amiga about the "driver" *.device).
It's important to use the right floppy driver 3,5" HD (many are not compatible with the MK3 card)

    regards

Wow! That killer video almost made floppy disks look exciting! Also, it's a free project, looks very well done, and seems very versatile. Let's see if there's any competition left when it starts being used.

    Hi,

Sorry to resurrect an oldish thread, but you may all be interested in this thread:

    @KennyR:
The CW Mk4 drivers under AmigaOS should work with the Mk3 too, although I don't have one to test with. The two are basically compatible.
Either way, your statement about it being a port from Linux able to read disk images is a little out of date. :) That is how they started, but there's a lot more to it now.
