Purchased a Symbios SYM8952U hoping that SCSI controllers that work on a Peg will be supported on future revisions of MorphOS that run on a Powermac.
Obviously it won't work under OSX (I assume the board has a BIOS written for only X86 based machines). I just felt relieved when the system didn't lock up on booting (so the board can be installed w/o problem).
Now I'll wait to test it when we get Powermac support.

I wanted to check to see if any Peg users were using this card. I've already tested it with a wide SCSI 2 drive and it works (in a PC) with that LVD drive.
I'm wondering if a current 15,000 RPM SCSI Ultra320 68pin hard drive would work with this controller? They're also LVD drives and the connector is the same.
I know that if it worked, the transfer rate would be slowed down to the max this controller can handle.
Could some of our more informed posters offer me their opinion?

Is this one usable with Pegasos2 G4@1000 in MorphOS 2.4 ?
If yes, Is It possible to bootstrap MorphOS from ultra 2 wide SCSI hard disk ?

This is all very reassuring, as I've already bought the controller.
BTW - These can be had at really good prices on Ebay.

I'm still curious to know if it will work with newer SCSI revision (above ultra 2 wide) drives.

    No advice on this guys?

I've contacted someone with a Casablanca Draco (an Amiga based video editor with a SCSI Wide 2 disk controller) who thinks his machine can handle a newer 15,000 rpm drive.

It would be nice to know I could use an SCSI drive with a newer interface with this older Symbios card. The speed improvement might only be minor, but the added capacity would be useful (and they're cheap).

I had some U160 drives working here.

Thanks, that kind of confirms what I thought would happen when you connected a faster LVD drive to an older interface.
If the U160 drives work, I don't see why the latest U320 drives wouldn't as well.
If I can't get a U320 to work, at least I've got confirmation of the previous standard working.
    Thanks again for the response.

U320 drive should be backwards compatible and work OK. U160 do work tested here..

Fantastic! I'd like to thank you guys again for confirming something I's suspected. Even on an older controller's interface speed, 15K rpm drives with 16mb caches ought to be able to produce some impressive results.
