that's right, while it was working, the big MARVEL chip got fried! there is a spot that was bright like a red led, and the smell of burnt electronics filled the air. there was no power probs on the network at the time... pure bad luck...!
So now I hear bPlan *might* do repairs? genesi cannot help me at all, they replied fast to my emails...
wth to do now? I only used it for 20mins damnit, not even got a chance to install MOS! (got it 2nd hand)

sorry to hear this. I have to say its a rather unusual fault. In all the years of hearing about probs that may happen to peg, this is a first time i've seen the marvell chip go bad.. strange for it to get so hot. worse can, maybe you can get an electronics company to desolder and solder a new chip..

May I ask how you were able to see it actually burn, I mean.. the mobo should be inside a case.. unless of course you have a transparent one.

I was able to see it because at the time I had the case open on my desk... I had replaced the HD with a new 80GB , and was trying to install MOS on it... I did not notice the red spot on the MARVEL until I got up to see why the hell it was not booting after a reset...

I know atleast one case were a dead CPU (due to failling fan) also killed the NB, but that doesn't seem to be the case here ?

I'm sorry, but I don't think repairing your motherboard will be easy neither cheap.

The northbridge are BPGA chips and are probably fairly difficult to find and solder.

I wish you good luck but I don't think you can get it fixed for less than 200?.

I sent it to bplan, they have spare parts for existing customers.... but only for existing customers and they need to send the old hardware first. and it is not cheap, it takes 200eur .
But I could not stand a burned amiga hardware!

from what I understood, 200eur is the standar fee.
but I must add that bplan is VERY helpfull and kind, I did not expect such great attitude towards a customer, I expected some standar raw corporate replies :-) they are nice people :-D
