Rumours of the XBox 360 seem to become more solid close before the official product presentation.
The numbers are impressive, but it must be proven still what's the truth behind those numbers.

It's said to include a triple core PPC at 3.2 ghz, each core with an altivec unit, a common 1 Mb L2 cache amd 512 MB Ram.

An Interesting detail will be the cooling system, since IBMs current 970 is not really a low energy chip.

The initial price should be 300 US$

Well, we will see more details on Thursday.

still an impressive piece of hardware for a reasonable price, i can't wait to see a linux distribution on it, could be impressive for a low cost linux box.

Those specs said to be true, but it seems a joke, excesivelly powerful for a console and even more than the better mac...

no next gen console will be using a G5 at all! and they cant even make dual care G5's not a 970 (if u dont believe me go to macrumors.com there are extensive debates) at least not as they are now. it would also not be a G5 because a console would not need that kind of processor (look at the CELL for example, crippled math processing, vastly reduced instruction cycles.) these chips are custom made for the systems.

Theoretical computing speed should be remarkably similar to the XBox, the use of a bigger L1 probably necessitates the lower clock but it's lower latency than the shared L2 of the XBox. Wonder have they also increased the number of registers.

The GPU sounds interesting, rather than using a super fast one they appear? to be using 2 smaller slower ones. The extra on-board RAM will make a big difference though.

The above doesn't sound too far out given the Cell and XBox specs we've seen. It also mentions the PPU is also present but I'm sceptical about that, it might be cheap though so who knows.

That said you're quite correct in that dual precision isn't what it could be, but that doesn't mean it'll stay that way.

CELL is fast, but there is a difrerentce in speed and capability. an UltraSPARC IV chip running at 1.4 gigz is just as fast (powerfull) as a P4 at 3.8 gigz. u could also compare PPC to PC processors. as for dual core G5. yes the POWER 4it is derived from is dual core. but derived from is the operative statment here. a single core G5 past 2.3 gigz needs to be watter cooled due to heat, 2 cores at any sort of speed close to that would be a toaster oven. i would probably go sterill sitting next to it.

Just wait some days and we will al know bouth the xbox360 and nintendo revolution. But actuly what should I have all this power for? My Gamecube is still enough, but in some years when the prices has gone down I might buy a Revolution box, it should be compatible with GameCube.

The revolution is here, and damn it looks hot. I must say that next time I buy a consol it will be Nintendo revolution it looks nice, and I do think that it can ive me exactly what I want ;)

I am definately most interested in the Revolution,
but the PS3 is looking nice too. Revolution with
full backwards compatiblility with all Nintendo
consoles built in, plus new online content is going
to rule. PS3 backward compatible was a big surprise
too and there are a lot of good games available at
launch for Revolution and PS3 just due to their back
catalogs.

PS3 looks to offer the most in terms of hardware
specification and will also have very strong publisher
support as usual, the PSP and DS connectivity of both
systems is going to be important too. I am quite happy
with what I am seeing from Nintendo and Sony this time
around. 2006 will be an exciting year in gaming that's
for sure. :)

As a swede I am reding the specs at www.nintendo.se

And thinks like that I will be abell to download old nintende games to the revolution, a true goal to go for online gaming. And games like Mario, Zelda and final phantasy...what more do I need?
