Im installing a new 500Gb hard drive on my Powermac G5 and resizing the system partitions... but MorphOS doesnt let me format partitions bigger than 128Gb, thats the real limit or im on a mistake?

I haven't used FFS2 myself, but I'd guess it's still slower than SFS and has validation issue/feature (how you want to call it) and otherwise older design, so even though it supports bigger drives, I'm not sure if it can be called more "advanced" option generally.

Since its inception I'd say.

FFS2 is part of MorphOS since v1.1 at least. There's a good summary by takemehomegrandma. MorphOS 3.8 even came with a small enhancement of FFS2.

So when I switched to 2.5" drives, first to smaller standard laptop drives, and later SSDs I just stopped using alternatives to SFS.

I guess I just don't have that many files on my system, but then I keep a USB drive adapter and have played around with non-native file systems (like ext2) on those for storing big files like video (that 2 GB file size limitation IS a PITA, and 4 GB is only barely adequate).
Supporting those non-native formats is particularly useful when you want to exchange files between different systems with other OS'or if you store all your media on one drive you swap between systems.

But then, to each his own, but if an FFS2 file system encounters an error...

Ill try to resizing the 500Gb hardisk to partition under 128Gb and use SFS, literally is way faster than FFS2, thank you for all suggestions.

Okay then i stick with IceFS. So far no Problems. I use it only for my Data. Maybe i'll switch to ext2 someday.

The versions of the filesystems are long forgotten sorry, but it was a G3 Pegasos-1, so your own milage may vary.

Edit: Oh, and the FFS is FFS2, probably in whatever version of MOS was around in 2013.
