G5 PowerMac videocard with MorphOS?

Spinning up the fans suggests that MorphOS has somehow crashed or not booted at all.

From my experience (see Quad thread) one can either have no display but the CD booted to the language/ kbd selector as with the R5 230 or it completely fails as with the MacPro card.

I tried but when the Radeon card was also in the machine, the Nvidia card didn't give a picture either.
I'm looking for a card on eBay but everyone there wants to sell it for a very high price.

Careful X600XT refers to the build in GFX in the 20“ iMac.

Such cards do not exist as Apple PCIe cards and PC cards don’t fall under the AtomBIOS compatibility.
They might work in an X5000 or SAM which can handle PC BIOS.

Yes, all Radeon X1300 to X1950 cards with AtomBIOS *should* work.

But how do I know which x1300 and x1950 has atom bios?
or do these 2 types all have this bios?
And what about the Sapphire ATI Radeon X1600XT?
    is this also Atom BIOS?
    Unfortunately I couldn't find a cheap x1950 card and I don't want to pay again for a card I can't use
    the x1600xt is not expensive
if it also works with atom bios I would buy it

If it's a card for x86/x64 Windows/Linux PCs (so not one for PPC/x86/x64 Macs), it has AtomBIOS.

    > what about the Sapphire ATI Radeon X1600XT?

"X1300 to X1950" is a range and includes any X1600.

The compatibility list is incomplete, so the XT variant is supported, see:

    https://morph.zone/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?topic_id=13334&forum=11 (#2)

There are many more variants of several graphics cards missing in the list which are most likely compatible.

Thank you very much for your help and to the other members of the forum as well!
Then I'll order the Radeon x1600xt
But first I'll take another look to see if I can find a cheap x1950, it's definitely much better than the x1600

Have testet both Cards in G5 11.2 2.3ghz with MorphOS 3.19

The question is whether it's possible to flash both cards with a Mac BIOS here. If so, which ROM should be used and where can it be found? Ideally, I'd like to remove the second graphics card (Nvidia 6600) as well.

    Thanks for the help

The Radeon Sapphire x1600 xt I ordered on ebay will arrive in the next few days
I'd like to get an x1950 card later, but hopefully what I ordered will work and be good for a while.
Now I want to buy a compatible Wifi card that isn't too expensive.

@ Krisz - don't forget that the Airport Extreme (A1027) is also compatible with MorphOS - see PowerMac G5 Quad - page 2 for more info on installing such a card. Hope this information is useful to you. 8-)

    Thanks

This is the card in question ?

Yes. You'd also need a fitting antenna for it (with MCX male plug).

@ Krisz - I usually use a mini-antenna connection board that originated from an A1107, but the board from an A1104 or A1010 (Apple part # 922-6074 or 922-5721, that I have previously bought from PowerBookMedic USA, and/or eBay, should be sufficient to connect the Airport card to this board.

I seem to remember that the PCIe G5 towers have their antennas built-in behind the vertical plastic panel on the back of the tower, and that there are aerial/antenna wires and connectors already attached to the aerial/antenna panel ready for connecting to a Runway card, but these can be adapted to the external aerial connectors as suggested by koszer, or modified to connect to the pre-existing aerial wires inside the PowerMac PCIe models, which I seem to remember is how I did it with the previous tower that I connected up successfully to an Airport Extreme card. You may have noticed that I also mentioned that if you are able to have a Dual-boot Mac OSX system then you can utilise the Bluetooth pairing to use an already paired Bluetooth device with MorphOS, which is what I did with an Apple A1016 keyboard. Most Bluetooth USB dongles that work with Windows XP should allow this functionality. Hope this helps. 8-)

Yes those are the cables leading to antenna in the back of the G5, but that use a different plug then on the actual AirPort card.

    Options:
    - Get that rare and expensive Runway card which acts like adapter
    - rip out the antenna from an older systems using the "bare" AirPort card
-- patch them to the existing cables
-- run the loose antenna to some non shielded place in or outside the G5

I'll do my testing sometimes next week.

As Kronos said, these cables (U.FL female plug) expect you to have an A1127 Airport/Bluetooth combo installed onto a Runway card in your G5. A1127 is easy to get, but Runway is a rarity and it's priced accordingly.

Hence the suggestion to use a vanilla A1027 AirPort inside this proprietary miniPCI slot of yours and it is guaranteed to work too. But it needs an antenna. You could try finding an adapter with MCX male (plugged into A1027) and U.FL male on the other side (to plug your antenna cable) or use a different antenna/cable (MCX to whatever, just get it out of the "Faraday cage" of your Mac's aluminium casing).

...or you could use some PCIe WiFi card that's reported to work (like the one here).
