What is the relevance of the fact that it is not being built anymore? The matter of the fact is that you will still be able to buy used MacMinis 3 years from now at affordable prices.

yeah, but i never buy used computers, because modern computers are cracking up after 2-3 years. this is a wanted 'feature' by the manufacturers. my c64 and my amiga are running since centuries, the mac mini wont, thats for sure.

My Pegasos2 runs now for 4.5 years 24/7 running dnetc and everything is fine and i think that the mac mini would do the same.
The only things i changed in that time was 2 times the HD and the GFX Card.
And i hope that Genesi or LimePC will release a 8641 or 8640 based Board to replace my Peg2, and that a future MOS release will Support that Board.

Although these things weren't built to last, the fact is that they do. There's some examples Commodore computers that proudly show years of continous usage. Some of them even terribly hacked, which adds up to the fascination.

But I guess that machines can last an unexpected amount of time, if you treat it with respect. If you do it with genuine love, like some of us do, they live forever.

Then, someone else gets one of these machines in heritage, and it breaks up in a single day. Lack of love from the new owner? Machine suiciding because misses its original owner so much?

Do I sound like I've been smoking something funny?

Yes ! :) Have you been smoking old Blizzard components again?

But I think the same. Just take care of it and it can go on and on and on and on. Like a car.
My A1200PPC works just fine and so does my peg1.

    @Jobbo
    Good !
So when you have fixed the problems with MorphOS 2.0 on Efika and Pegasos you can go on and port it to other platforms.
The macmini is a very good choice in my opinion.
And why not the Powerbook/Ibook later.
Maybee we can have a MorphOS laptop then! =)

Honestly speaking porting MOS to PS3 would make perfect sense the hardware is guaranteed to be around for a long long time and most likely its successor will also support other OSs. It could even widen user base a lot as there are millions of PS3s out there and also thousands of PS3 owners who used to have an Amiga or are still following the scene, but doesn't have the hardware to run MOS 2.

Maybe we should start a bounty on MOS 2 to PS3 :)

Regarding the MPC8610 - in about a month from now, at PowerDev Meeting #4, some info will be released about Genesi's 8610 development:

"Luky will also have the opportunity to present the first details about the new 8610 system we are developing. This new system will provide a high level of software compatibility with the former Pegasos/ODW"

    Yeah!
I think the same - Mac mini is good enough to port MOS on it. I'm gonna buy that comp just to run the future release of MOS on it.
